Yep, the upgrades became a steady stream of shards for me at a certain point.
I advise to try and get to all the vantage points at least, because they are tantamount to the story. By now you should be able to fast travel where you want (if you've been saving at each campfire on the map), so getting to the vantage points should not be that difficult.
About fast travel, HZD is one of the few open world games where I rarely used the fast travel option (along with RDR). The world is just so lush and beautiful that I didn't want to miss anything. So I would always look for a mount to override to traverse around the map.

If Horizon Zero Dawn doesn't get game of the year, then the so called experts in the business need to change careers, imo.

Doing The Mountain That Fell mission. Made it to Sylen's workshop before stopping for the night.
I'm at level 50. Completed all the Corruption Zones. I have 1 metal flower and 2 Vantage points left. The info from the Mother's Hearth mission was really cool. It really helped flesh out what happened.
Oh, and I grabbed a power cell while I was there. Only 1 left before I can get the armor (I think). I thought I had it after using the 2 cells to open the door.
I fast traveled to the closest campfire to Mother's Hearth, bang! 2 Corrupters and a Deathbringer to fight, that sucked a little.

What did you think of that one corruption zone I was alluding to earlier? I tried to stay on the rocks and pick them off one at a time until I looked across the river area and saw the way.

Was that the one with the Snapmaws? If it was, I got lucky and had some non-corrupted Glinthawks that I used corruption arrows on, they did a lot of damage to the snapmaws.
The Behemoth one in Shadow Carja territory gave me some trouble too. I got lucky and had accidentally retreated back towards the Tallneck area and was able to corrupt some Ravengers. They helped weaken the behemoths.

Yep, it was the CZ with the Snapmaws. After a few attempts from the islands of rocks, I decided to scurry over to the river area and override one of the machines there. I didn't have to, because when I got near the machines at the river area, I agro'd them and they started chasing me and then the Snapmaws started focusing attention on them, which I thought was weird because I thought you had to override machines to get them to fight one another. Anyway, I then just stayed on the other side of the river and used my bow to widdle down the Snapmaws health (the health that was left after battling the other machines).

Yeah, I got lucky on that one. I didn't have to cross the river into the corrupted zone until all but 1 of the Snapmaws were down. I had more of the problem with the corrupted Stalkers than I did the Snapmaws, I had to treat them to an almost stand up fight.

Stalkers are annoying as fuck, even with the best stealth gear (which I wore from the moment I got it) it's tough as hell to sneak up on them. Tearblast arrows are great for them though, they're just great in general tbh, so satisfying to just slowly break the machines down into constituent parts

My first encounter with a Stalker didn't go so great. I ended up running away. Later on in my travels though, once I acquired the Knock Down skill and had the best stealth armor (imbued with even more stealth mods), I would sneak up close enough, agro them and then roll out of the way and strike with the spear, which would knock them down. I would then pounce on them and exact as much damage as I could before they gained their composure and were back at the hunt, at which point I would roll away and do it again.
The point specific damage in HZD is the best I've seen in a game. You are right, hitting "hot spots" on a machine and watching the parts drop is so satisfying and awesome. Tearblast arrows were one of my go to comforts in battle.

I found sneaking up on them really, really hard tbh, even with the best stealth gear plus mods those proximity sensors were a real fucking doozy. So in the end I just went in guns blazing against them, tearblast from the off to remove their stealth capabilities. Then just hit em with everything I had.

Definitely. I could only sneak up close enough to agro them and put them in pursuit mode. Then it was a matter of rolling out of the way when they charged and pivoting to do a heavy strike with the spear to knock them down.

I usually shoot their flares from a distance, which would flush the out of hiding, then hit them with corruption arrows and let them go all Thunderdome on each other. Then clean up whatever was left. The corruption zone ones were immune to the corruption arrows though.
I finished the main quest last night. Picked up the power armor (or whatever) after the Mountain mission and headed to the Spire. I'm sure glad I had those Osseram Heavy Cannons, did anyone not do the side mission with Petra before doing the final mission? I'm curious if they are built into the final mission or an extra for someone who did her side mission.
...and fuck Fero, that guy is an asshole.

I did all the side missions before finishing up the main story missions. But if I know what your talking about, I think those heavy cannons are there regardless because I don't know how you could get past those waves of machines without them.

I'm deep into Assassin's Creed: Origins, but plan on playing this expansion when I'm done. Reviews have been favorable but state that it doesn't do anything radical. It's more of the same (which is a good thing) with a new area of side quests and a bit of a main story. Which I'm fine with.

Would be nice to have something unexpected to look forward to. Like riding a flying machine or something. I'd hope to at least see a new weapon/armour set.
