I believe there are new weapons and armor. I think you are introduced to a new tribe, so I think you can attain their gear. Also additional slots on gear to add the percent increase to attributes. And also I believe I read there is a new skill tree to assign experience points to.

New machines too, obviously. There is supposed to be a machine equivalent of a grizzly bear.

But yeah, I read that if you really loved HZD this will scratch the itch to get back into it. If you liked HZD, but are kinda burnt out on it, then this may not be for you right away, and you should wait until you need that itch scratched again. Posted Image

Aloy dies at the end. J/K. Great game, right? Stay with it, you won't be disappointed.

Downloading dlc.

I just read something about the deep snow effects; trails and such that remain visible enough to track by, and that was enough. Looking forward to getting back into it tonight.

Morgoth - wait until you find the first cauldron. I think that's when I first really got hooked, I love that 'Broken Empire' contrast between the buried tech and the wilderness outside.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I murdered an entire bandit camp by having them all charge through a brutal gauntlet of traps and trip wires. None survived to reach me.

I criminally underused tripwires, traps and potions. I found it easier to just lob grenades than set up tripwires and I found their were too many things to hit left and right for in regards to traps and potions

I only used the tripwires for machines that exhibited a herd mentality. So when they were spooked they would all run in a certain pattern together.

For bandit camps I went stealth for the most part and only did the bare minimum to have success in it showing as complete on the map. I think it usually was to kill the commander and steal some loot. All the other bandits got to live another day (unless they were in the way, then I usually assassinated them and hid their bodies).

Damn. I want to play the Frozen Wilds DLC so bad but currently running around Egypt in Assassin's Creed. It's beautiful!

This game was so good. I immediately went and downloaded the DLC. I wonder whether it'll answer any more questions.

Just started playing! Only up to the training montage after you pay for a bit the little Aloy but I'm drawn into this world already. I had to do an emotional flashpoint thing when the kid threw a rock at me. Chose the "Heart" option and dropped the rock - do these things matter like the paragon/renegade choices in Mass Effect? Or is it just a nice little addition?

Also got some leveling up to do now - are there any paths on the skill tree I should focus on getting or is it a case of try to update them all equally?

The choices, as far as I remember, don't have quite the impact as mass effect, you just go with what you want.

Skill tree is different - there are a few really helpful things to aim for early on, but depends on your game style I guess. I maxed everything archery wise, and only put enough into spear to get the quick kill on the ground once machines were stunned. I found I used tripwires loads, so the perk to collect and reuse them was great, whereas some people rarely used them.

My favourite method throughout the game was leaving a trail of tripwires - then luring beasties down through them, running in for hits whenever they got stunned.

It's an awesome game, enjoy.

I chose skills from all three trees. Concentration slows time while aiming, so that was good, as were Double and Triple Shot later on. Lure Call plus Silent Strike is essential. Healer and Herbalist, too, and Tinker is vital for reusing weapon and armour mods.

Skill tree wise, I would choose the skills in the Prowler tree and Brave tree first before Forager tree. Depends on your play style though. I personally found that early in the game, you rely heavily on your spear, so sills like Silent Strike, Silent Drop and Strike from Below are important. I then begin working on skills that enhanced by bow skill, which Brave skill tree has some skills to pick from. Don't neglict the Forager skil tree though, as there are some good skills you can select there early on too. But, again, it probably depends on your style of play that directs you to the best skills for you.

Thanks all I'm still getting to grips with it but it's really rather good. :p

An I right in thinking some items only exist to help with trade? Not meet a trader yet but have a bunch of lens' and stuff.

There are items that are used only for trading for money (metal shards). But make sure you hold on to the stuff that is used for crafting, unless you have a butt-load of it, then you can trade excess inventory for metal shards.

Welp, it was a good start. I've just completed the Proving and then the but straight after where the corrupter attacks Mother's Watch. What a story so far, and I just did a quick zoom out of the map... I thought it was big anyway but Sheesh it's huge!

My wife is away this weekend so the evenings are mine. Hope to make good progress!

Take your time, check out the viewpoints when they appear on the map (I love the primitive/high tech contrast) and check out the lighting when you're creeping through the wild at dawn.

I've been to some of the Vantage Points IRL (The setting is western U.S. Posted Image) . I was all agog after I found the first one in the game and had get to the others as soon as I could. Glad I purchased the map that shows all of them.
