Oh btw I can see why you want a guide now!

Yeah, I just pre-ordered the guide myself.

Climbed my first Tallneck last night. That was fun, having seen so much of it in the trailers and gameplay videos. Also managed to grab the Knockdown skill. Next I'm aiming for the one that allows you to fire two and three arrows at a time.

I only fought the one so far - fire arrows into that tank thing?

Have you got any sling weapons yet?

I'm using the first sharpshooter bow I could buy... it's damage is way better, it brings down animals in one shot and at the proving I was head-shotting the archers.

There's another one on sale now but it has needs some weird ammo I haven't even discovered yet. Does a ton of damage though!

I'm loving stumbling along on sidequest! It's expanding the world/story so much. This game will go down as one of the greats like Mass Effect/KOTOR/TES if the middle and end stay the course The Proving set.

Loving the tech mixed in with tribal/prehistoric setting, and the misinterpretations of the past. It reminds me of Mark Lawrence series.(There's that lovely bit in the Thorns series where one of the revered holy objects turns out to be a grenade).

The Jorg theme continues with the map - being able to consult the metal view ring which gave him a satellite view of the land is just what I feel like panning through that map. It seems huge!

Found first metal flower, datapoint, and bunker with an awesome prize for later in it. (Although I kind of hope it's a lot later, I don't want this turning into Fallout.) Also cleared first bandit camp, I think it was that easy on purpose.

Beautiful ruins. First Longneck, plus maps I bought which show things back where I came from. Just stumbled on a sawtooth in rain with near zero visibility - put three tripwires in a row, he fell at each and I used strike when he was downed. Didn't quite finish him so I ran like hell and dropped a shock bomb behind me, which got it and let me turn to kill it.

The Vantages are a nice touch too. I'm having trouble turning it off.

So I bought this yesterday (all hail Sony and being able to play games offline), it's pretty sweet.
I liked the Proving and the setting is nice. Graphically it looks phenomenal, and it handles well enough (could do with some fine tuning here and there, and I feel like they missed some opportunities like in the new Tomb Raider games to have Aloy press up against a wall if you walk into it).

Looking forward to putting some hours into this, for sure. Also, have to say I'm already

Spoiler

@Trav - are you talking about the cool bow that does Tear damage for days? I picked that up (the merchants sell the ammo too I believe), and it's pretty awesome.

Actually though, the elemental damage stuff is one of the few areas of the game I don't particularly like. I'd have been fine laying more mundane traps and maybe working up to some makeshift bombs and emps, I just kinda feel like the whole shock wire traps and "blaze" ammo and stuff is a bit too much too soon.

And as fun as it is to grab a mount, I kinda feel like I'm not going to use it much early on. Too big and loud, not enough time to stop and search around for stuff/admire the view. XD

Also, I love the little "errand" quests you can assign yourself - being able to set yourself your own goal to find parts needed to buy or make something specific is a nice quality of life touch.

Haha wow Nil is a very twisted being! Yet I can't help but like him atm.

Ha he was pissed at me as I left him on his hill to solo the bandit camp. Also he hunts people for sport... we fell out over that one.

No I don't think I picked up a power cell as I didn't get the option to place one - don't know how I missed it though?

@Silencer - yes sme feeling about the mount, I rode about for 5 minutes, then got off and carried on on foot.

@Bk the textures are amazing - its the moss that gets me, it has such detail, and none of it flickers, disappears as you move, or pops only when you get close - it's just not like any other game out there. (Its certainly taking the edge off not having the new Zelda)

Yeah! I got the power cell from the ruins from the start of the game, but I missed the one in Mother's Heart. Have to go back for it later on when they re-open the gates Posted Image

I need to buy a Sharpshooter bow. I've been using the Nora bow that the DLC code provided almost exclusively. Got a sling but I've barely used it, tbh - just for the Hunting Ground mission that required one.

Knockdown plus Critical Strike works pretty well against Sawtooths.

Sharpshooter bow plus improved slow targeting is a good combo too.

I've only just noticed the fast travel packs, I now have about 9. I might travel back and look for the bits I missed.

Edit.. ok so gates are still closed but I found a power cell in the ruins in the Embrace - smashing through stalactites and prying doors.

Wait you found one from when Aloy was a little girl?

I went back to those ruins with grown-up Aloy and found it, yeah.

Any luck with power cell BK? Or is there like another door inside?

Just looked at my stats. Humans killed - 49. Headshots - 41!

Just met a Stalker. With a cloaking device.
Good fight, he still went down to traps and strikes though.

Alright, trying o order the game on Amazon, it's saying I'll have to wait until March 23rd! I'm guessing they've been selling out or something?

March 23rd happens to be the same day my Mass Effect adromeda pre-order comes in!!!

Might've preordered this as well, to avoid this, but the week of it's release was just bad for me money wise :) Plus it was all the reviews thta have really sold me on it
