Isn't it just? When I heard that Trump had tweeted out later that he'd been referencing a Fox News segment, I nearly fell off my chair laughing. (And it's actually not funny, if I think about it).

If it's the story I think they're referencing they're talking about Trump making up a story of some kind of immigration/terror related incident that he believed happened in Sweden. Only no such thing had occured. Most likely he saw a video clip on TV and mistook the informtion:

Basically Trump sees or hears random sound bites or tweets and just creates his own reality. It's a scary notion that the leader of a country gets his opinions from random TV programs and commercials.

It's a psychological phenomenon that people when given false information are inclined to stick with this information and form impressions accordingly even when told it was absolute bollocks. So maybe, just maybe, he is actually clever?

And yes, that phenomenon is the basis for the entire Trump campaign and presidency so far.

That's true, but it's not just confirmation bias. The brain actually finds it easier to accept lies than to dispute them, because the latter takes more steps -- and one of those steps is accepting the lie.

But State Sen. Mark Chelgren's alleged alma mater is actually a company that operated a Sizzler steak house franchise in southern California and he doesn't have a "degree," Ed Failor, a spokesman for the Iowa State Republicans, told NBC News.

Honestly, I wish that Stephen Colbert hadn't ended "The Colbert Report". When I think of what he could do with the material that the Trump gov't / administration is basically handing to him, I practically want to drag him back to his old desk and make him do a new segment of The Word.
