A friend of mine (also a Ph.D. in history) stated a while back that the US now had gained the high score kill count throughout history, overtaking the Catholic church. I don't think he has solid math to prove it though, either.

I'm confident in the assertion and I'm pretty sure the 'math' holds up, though obviously there's some degree of art there when speaking of 'blood.' Do we count ounces? Do the little kids at the weddings and hospitals we drone bomb count as less blood than the adults? I don't think what I said is even particularly controversial. I just wasn't feeling open to having orders thrown at me last night (even by someone I'm otherwise congenial with ).
Anyway, I will say war isn't the only bloody business.

Yeah, just gonna throw this in here and then drink and be merry again: Might makes itself right, it's hard to build a global hegemony without breaking a few omelets. Lack of credible statistics and defining responsibility makes an actual count impossible though. Who shot first and who killed who is too much in the eye of the beholder (or inquisition or shooter, or the one tricking the shooter into firing on that specific person or coutnry). But - the ones on top haven't gotten there by hugs and cuddles alone. They are probably standing on the largest pile of skulls.
