Southgate's statement was exactly what I expected, thoroughly decent and thanking all the people behind the scenes. I might not have understood all his decisions but I always liked him, he seemed a genuinely decent man and he's dealt with an awful lot of nonsense in his tenure beyond the usual online vitriol. Remember when Boris Johnson thought it was a good idea to fight Marcus Rashford and denounce the England team for taking the knee before their matches?

They won everything on the way through didn't they?

Full disclosure I think I watched one game, and by watched I mean it was on in the background, of the entire tournament.

But from what I gathered England were lacklustre most of the way through with some last minute heroics scraping them through, off the back of some truly bizarre selections.

At what stage do England stop giving a fuck about who a player plays for, or what the media is saying and actually just go for form players?
Bring back Mike Bassett

Yes, they were the only team with all 3 group wins, they beat Georgia in round of 16, scored in the end of OT to beat Germany, beat France 2:1 in the semis, and then beat England.

England has a whole cohort of creative, energetic, and fun to watch players. And they all typically start on the bench, except Saka.
I feel for Southgate, he's been dealing with insane amount of media pressure since Day 1.

And I want to state that Ment has out-weaseled me by far in this game.

So I've been seeing a couple of unconfirmed suggestions that the Lionesses manager, Sarina Wingman is being considered to replace Southgate.

I think in one way it's a great idea. She has shown she knows how to win with an international squad.

However. If you thought the media and public response to every little thing Southgate did was bad, just imagine how horrendous it would be because she's a (gasp!) woman! The sexist, awful comments that would abound. The gammony rage. It's unbearable just thinking about it. Even the players may not respect her as much, even if they remain a bit more professional about it.

Should that be a reason not to hire her? Absolutely not. Should she consider that factor if they do ask her to do it? It's got to be on her mind...

you know what, if she gets the job, I'd be ok with England winning a tournament, maybe do ok in the world (they cant win that) then win the Euros.
And win the final because of some inarguable tactical genius by Wingman, watch them boil in their own piss
