No, they are cakes. Biscuits go soft in time, jaffa cakes go hard. Like a cake.
I know this to be the truth. QI told me so.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

This hot dog sandwich question is important, but there are more pressing concerns

Can we all agree that, in spite of its' name, Cheesecake is a pie, not a cake?

How does that even remotely resemble a pie?! A pie has to be baked, surely?!

Most cheesecakes are baked.

Most cheesecakes have a crust and a filling.

They generally aren't layered, don't have flour in the filling, and don't rise. They aren't served at birthdays, aren't served with iced cream, and don't generally have an icing OR a ganache.

Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

Mal, is a hot dog a sandwich?

That is heresy.

No it's not a sandwich, because the bread is one whole enveloping bun. If it had been split, then yes, it would be a sandwich.

What the fuck.
It is definitely a sandwich. You have meet inside bread. That's the most stereotypical sandwich thing possible.

No. For sandwich you need two slices of bread. For a hotdog you use a bread roll (Is this really the right word? Sounds somehow wrong)

But you cut the bun in half effectively creating two slices of roll...

Okay, that may be a Germany-only thing, but for me two slices of bread with meat/cheese/etc in between are a sandwich/Belegtes Brot. Slicing a bun/Brötchen into two results in a Belegtes Brötchen. Maybe you call this a sandwich as well, but here those two things are something different. :rtfm:

Belegtes brot is "open-faced sandwich" - which is pizza.

Belegtes brotchen is "sandwich".

I posit that once you fold up the open-faced sandwich to mostly enclose the filling (meat, vegetable, fruit etc.), it becomes a belegtes brotchen. Altering the topology of the food alters the classification.

Thus a hot dog on a single piece of bread is a sandwich in waiting. That belegtes brot is waiting for one to grip it, fold it, and scarf it as a belegtes brotchen.

And thus a taco is the same category of sandwich as a hot dog. Burritos too.

So you're telling me we might someday soon have a sandwich truck on every corner?

A sausage can be a sandwich, but only if it is sliced and eaten between two pieces of bread. If it is whole and on a bunch, not a sandwich. A taco is even less of a sandwich, and a burrito is even farther away.

Just because something is encased in bread it does not become a sandwich. If you eat clam chowder out of a bread bowl is it a chowder sandwich? No it is not, because we live in a society and there are rules. A hotdog is no more a sandwich than a bread bowl of chowder.

Well you don't squeeze a bread bowl such that the chowder is sandwiched between the bread sides. There aren't even 'sides', as a matter of fact. On the other hand we ALL squeeze our wieners.

What? No. That is completely wrong.

A pizza is a complete flatbread, topped with tomatosauce, cheese and other things. It is not a slice of bread topped with something.

And the number of slices has nothing to do with the differentiation in belegtes Brot and belegtes Brötchen. You can eat both open-faced. But slice of bread and a bun/Brötchen are different things. Do you see the difference?

Okay, we are back. Mal, what is you opinion about Sandwiches, Pizza, Bread, Tacos and Burritos? :rtfm:

So what would a sausage roll fall under then, cosidering it is entirely encased inthe bread?

I think that is the same as bread bowl. A sandwich requires the middle being sandwiched between two sides (even if those sides are hinged).

A sandwich does not require a slice of bread. It can be an entire loaf of bread on one side, the filling, and an entire loaf of bread on the other side. All that is required is that bread mostly or entirely surrounds the filling.

A pizza instantly becomes a sandwich once parts of it are folded upwards for the eating. If one eats pizza without a fold, then one is not eating a sandwich.

I dunno what you're talking about with the open-faced brotchen tho.

I say a sausage roll is a sandwich too - as is a calzone.

Or a samosa. Or an apple pie with the pastry top.

No it doesn't. A folded pizza is a folded pizza.

Nope, nope nope.

If you put that folded pizza between 2 pieces of bread, then you have a folded pizza sandwich.

Otherwise, nope.

You people are crazy. Pizza is not a sandwich. A calzone is not a sandwich. Nor is a taco, burrito, or pie. Gyro? No. Not sandwiches. Relatives perhaps, but not sandwiches.

No, a hot dog is defined by the poor-quality meat or meat substitute stuffed into an edible plastic tube. A sandwich is defined by the style of bread that contains some manner of filling. It's a stupid question because you already knew the answer so you've asked it as a provocation of sorts. Have some courage and picka fight if that's what you want. I can't quite remember why I have such monumental contempt for you but it certainly has to do with how far you are up your own ass. What's new in the "Crucible of Pressure and Need"?
