Really glad you jumped off that, I'd have been upset of you didn't.

There was a bit of controlled flailing involved on the way down.
Had to be done though. Planet looks amazing, might try a base if I can figure out how multiple bases work.

Just fixing up the mining frigate after a trip.
Took the S-class for a spin. It's super fast and nips round asteroids, but very few slots.

So apparently the first event might start in the next week or so. It involves going through a portal and gathering items for Polo. Everyone is directed to the same planet so you're very likely to meet other people.
You exchange the materials for Quicksilver, which you can then use to buy cosmetics on the anomaly ship, like a new emote and helmet.
Edit: or even right now!

Proper community event! And it all worked without a hitch.
Found portal, went through to a very fine looking planet; with real people all over it looking for buried tech! First time since I played that I've seen icons on scanner for other ships or players - it was a bit weird really, this game is my 'solitude'.. after a few minutes I was hoping I would be able to find my way back to my galaxy.
I collected the minimum of 25 hexs, and took them to Polo as instructed. Prizes aren't great tbh, certainly not worth going back to dig up more for. As by the chat some people were stranded here (or thought they were) I went to the space station to find it was indeed abandoned... so no teleporter home.
No problem though, I Just went back to the planetside portal, which was still active, and nipped back through.
The latest update has tweaked a few more things, the most noticeable being another graphics boost. I don't know what they did, but my fleet, planet backdrop and lighting across my ship as I took off in low orbit just looked even better than before.

Yep, I found the event easy enough to do - the problem came afterward. Polo says you can now look anywhere in the galaxy for the hex cores, so I went back to my system- and found nothing. Just kept giving me the salvaged tech every time. Tried going back to the event planet, and started getting hex cores again. So it seems Galaxy-wide doesn't mean Galaxy-wide.
A more serious problem is a bug with my inventory. The last few slots I've upgraded using drop pods aren't showing up in the menu. That is, they exist, and items can go in them, but I can't place anything in them or see the items once they've been put in there. So for instance, it says I have 33 regular slots in my exosuit, but I can only see 31 of them.

Same, regarding buried tech. Well, the first two I dug up weren't hex cores anyway. Will explore more later.
Inventory seems to be a problem for some people - I don't know why they messed with that anyway, why drag and drop? Mine seems ok... the last 3 slots I upgraded were cargo as you can fit more in them, and they're all still there.

I've just read there's a hot fix coming out very soon for the inventory bug, so that's good.

They seem to be onto things like that immediately. They're probably really enjoying getting this stuff out, fixing, tweaking and watching the reactions.

Well yeah it's all gonna be better reactions than the initial reaction when it came out and most people kicked off about it!

So I got another 25 hex cores from the event planet, but now it's only tech again. Tried some of the other planets in the system, same result. I wonder if I have to turn them into Polo before they start appearing again (but then why would there be an option to give Polo 50 cores?), or if there is some sort of timer cooldown in effect.
One thing I've noticed: I'm almost constantly connected to the online discovery services when on the event planet. But if I go back to my own system, it drops in and out again. Can Hello Games boost connection for certain areas of the Galaxy? That would be weird.
Being on the event planet also highlights the limitations of the discoveries uploading. Every time I go back to the event planet it seems to have been discovered first by a different person, and same with the animals.

So after some experimenting it seems that you can only collect 25 hex cores in one go before they turn into salvaged tech again. But once you sell those to Polo, you can find hex cores once more.
Slightly annoying is the fact that the first 25 were worth 80 quicksilver each, but subsequent batches only give you 25 quicksilver each. So far I've only bought the new helmet.

One creepy thing I've noticed about this event planet is that, while it's a beautiful place, ALL of the outposts and settlements are abandoned or forsaken, and have those biological horror eggs around them. And they aren't the normal abandoned outposts either, but like actual minor settlements with still-functioning landing pads, but inside they've been completely destroyed.

That abandoned space station is creepy, first one I've been in. Be cool if you could find empty freighters to loot, with biological horrors lurking inside!
Didn't get on last night, but I'll go back through the portal later if I get the chance. I only bought the silver statue, nothing else really grabbed me and there will be much more stuff released down the line.
My fleet is growing - got a couple of decent supply ships now, and the update has coloured them all the same. Got significantly more units from a returning mission too, making missions a viable source of income. Not that I need any more right now - I have enough saved for any ships that I like the look of, and I'm still looking for that perfect freighter.
Fleet looks cool though, I quite like just flying to each one to collect supplies or scan for stuff with the explorer ships.
Found my first glyph too. Only 15 more to go...

Yeah, I've only got one glyph so far too. I've also just realised that the event planet is dotted with exocraft stations, so you can take an exocraft round for a spin even if - like me - you haven't unlocked them yourself yet.

I mostly use exocraft for storage - when they're parked outside my base I just use them for transferring stock (because how ever many slots you have, when they are all full and the containers are all full you need a space somewhere to help move it all about.)
Also the scanners on them pick up depots and alien bases which is handy.

This is the planet in my home system with the portal. It's really quite something.
The event planet isn't bad either.

Found a sweet S-class rifle... bought it, but now have to reinstall a load of things I don't have blueprints for, so off on a space station hop for modules.
Also need nanites. I never seem to accumulate many - millions of units now, but like 250 nanites.

New batch of photos!
Got quite a shock when this big ugly guy swam up to me:
I've been experimenting quite a bit with filters and angles recently:
This interesting fella is the biggest creature on the community event planet:
Three of the four planets in the community event system (the event planet is the middle one):
Taking a break from finding hex cores:
Look at the nice view!:
Trying some first-person shots currently:
