This looks pretty good. Not really sure what the actual story/big bad is about, but it looks good. This appears to be WW1 but this looks like it's going to be the Captain America movie I wished Marvel had made.

I wonder if we're going to see WW just straight up cleaving soldiers in half of if they'll just have her hitting people with the flat of her blade or some bullshit.

I have never paid any attention to Wonder Woman (or most DC characters for that matter) but this trailer makes me think that I should see this movie.

New trailer. I was excited before, but damned if this doesn't look incredible!

Looks great. I do wonder how or if this movie is supposed to tie into a Justice League series.

In Captain America the tie in was the cosmic cube/infinity gem. In the Wonder Woman film are we going to find some buried Darkseid relic or a Boom Tube or something?

Also, anyone familiar with actual Wonder Woman lore know if this is tied to the actual comics or are they sort of retcon-ing her background story?

I'm not sure if they are going to use the standalone movies to establish further Justice League main villain arc things like the boom tubes, or Darkseid stuff. If anything, it will be like the nebulous stuff in BvS which dealt with it.

As far as I can tell, all they've switched up is placing it in WWI instead of WWII (which is traditionally the backdrop to her first visit to our world from Themiscyra), but everything else is in place...She basically comes out into the "world of men" to help Steve Trevor (who she's taken a shine to) fight the war he's fighting...and the bad guys (traditionally the Nazi's) are the Germans on the opposing side.

There are two kind of generally accepted origins for her birth:

The original is that she was made out of clay and brought to life by her mother Queen Hippolyta with powers bequeathed from the Greek Gods.
The New52 update to that was that she was actually a demigoddess and daughter of a union between Queen Hippolyta and Zeus.

As far as I've heard, they will be going with the New 52 option.

But yeah, aside from the world war/era switch...everything else lines up with her typical presentation in the comics from the last 30 years or so (before George Perez revamped her character in the 1980's, she was more just "superhero" with underdeveloped origins).

Really? With the 'I was brought to life by Zeus' line from the first trailer?

Looks awesome, anyway.

Except both origins can be seen as "brought to life by Zeus"....one would be through him being her father, and the other through the clay figurine and magic.

Yeah, but the preceding line is 'I have no father'.

It's not like her mother would admit to being fucked by a swan now, is it?

That would make for an awkward dinner conversation.

Yeah, but the preceding line is 'I have no father'.

Right, but again, that can be interpreted. Zeus is well known as an absentee father to his various half-human offspring.

Not saying you're wrong...just that it's open to interpretation.

Im not sure I can understand the WW1 setting. The beauty of the Nazis as far as movies and video games goes is that the only thing you can have less sympathy for is a Nazi Zombie. Ignoring the possible debate of true Nazis vs German soldiers when capt America fights in WW2 we can be positive he is on the right side. Even then though Marvel makes sure to display (fictional) Hydra as the true enemies.

Why can we support Wonder Women helping the Allies vs the Central powers? WW1 was a nightmare like no war before it but I am not sure if the Central powers were evil. I suppose we will have to see if maybe its the 'Hydra' of WW1 that is the true enemy (Ares might make an appearance?). Or we will have to see what Trevor's aim of ending the war really means.

I've seen it speculated (possibly based on comments from the filmmakers, but it was a while ago so I'm not sure) that this is exactly the reason: WWII is one where the enemy is immediately and obviously evil but WWI is far less clear. If they want to go with the theme that war itself is the enemy- something which Wonder Woman can obviously make physically manifest if Ares shows up, as we all suspect- then WWI is probably a more relevant setting.

Spoiler

I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Apparently it's good. Currently 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Cool.

Indeed. Early social buzz was solid, but it's nice to hear that the critics seem to so roundly like it. I don't want to read any full reviews for fear of spoiling it for myself before I see it, but I'm happy to hear it's solid.

Also, it sounds like this it's a win for the whole "Let Patty Jenkins make the movie she wants to make and don't try to micromanage her till she walks from the Directors chair Marvel!" (Thor 2)

Let's also remember that this is the first of the DCEU movies where Geoff Johns has been overseeing the films as a Kevin Feige-like "show runner"...so that's good news as well!

Fuck me, they finally made a good one.

And it's Wonder Woman... the movie they've been saying for decades could not be made.

I'd also like to note that DC...at movie # 4....has beaten Marvel who are at Movie 15 (and counting! They will be at Movie 21 before this occurs) to a Female-led Superhero film.
