One could argue that Legend is part of a finished series.

One could, but could two?
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

That said,

Legend is a standalone book. The Drenai series of which it is a part is finished, on account of the author having passed.

The Locke Lamora series is far from finished. The fourth book isn't due until at least next year, and there are I think at least 3 more planned after that.

I thought the Locke Lamoras weren't an actual series, but just in the same world. I might've heard wrong though.

Afraid you heard wrong indeed.

It will truly be a staggering site to see once the final "Cosmere" bk gets put on a shelf.

It will be around 13 Mistborns, and 10 Stormlights plus if he wants to release more standalone Cosmeres. It will be one of the biggest fantasy universes ever

I know they're linked by "shards" and what ever, but I always struggle to see Brandersons series linked into a shared universe the way gemmells stones of power series is for example (and that's only the jon shannow novels, the macedon novels and...2? More?) and that was a tenuous enough connection.

Is it part-finished? I mean, I know Gemmell passed, but he wasn't writing Drenai at the time (he was writing the Troy books, which I believe his widow finished from his notes). The last Drenai book I think was Swords of Night and Day which finished the Skilgannon story. I didn't get the feeling there was a good deal left to do, I doubt there was much life left in Druss in terms of new stories, and Waylander's story finished in Hero in the Shadows - I'd argue they and Skilgannon were his three major protagonists.

Who knows I guess. But, to agree with Macros, the answer is indeed always Legend. I flipping love that book.

Nothing had been written in Drenai for some time.
Id say with Stella finishing Troy Gemmells works are fairly well wrapped up. Druss' life definitely. You could look at it as Legend, chronicles of druss and chronicles of deathwalker (whatever the druss/nadir book is called) as being the Druss "trilogy" complete. I suppose you could add the novel set years later with the dragon as a tenuous continuation.
But yah, RTBB has it right imo, most of Gemmells novels are self contained, and anything that has a continuation storyline wise through a second or third has been wrapped.

Eta -
Adding my obligatory recommendation for the Troy trilogy, the best thing Gemmell wrote, I love Legend, absolutely love it, but Troy is better as it carries the quality and momentum through a trilogy. Legend is my favourite Gemmell novel, but overall Troy trumps Drenai for me

All of Troy is sitting in my bookshelf unread. It's being mentally added to the mahoosive pile of reading I'm going to do when I move out - never lived on my own before, I suspect it's a good excuse to read until I can read no more! Although on that strong a recommendation I think it's going to be leap frogging upwards in said list! ^_^

The Cosmere is probably the most ambitious fantasy universe out there.

But whilst I enjoyed the original mistborn trilo nd felt it was mostly quite clever, Stormlight still reads like a Saturday morning cartoon to me. One of the better ones, mind, and decently entertaining in certain bits, but a kids' cartoon nonetheless.

It was the reverse for me. The first Mistborn book was good, the second was bad, the third was mediocre with a bad ending. SLA seemed to have a greater average quality.
