Welp. I've voted. Not going to be able to focus at work today. If my Facebook is any indication, Labour have got this in the bag. Also I don't trust polls after Brexit and Trump. Also, the way the French and Dutch voted gave me a bit of hope that people are finally getting sick of right wing populism...

But I'm also absolutely dreading waking up tomorrow. Despite encouraging signs, I don't trust this country but to screw it up again...

*sigh*

Don't go forgetting that most friends on arsebook tend to be people of a similar age or inclination to yourself. I'm in deepest blue territory so not realistic to hope for much here, still been out and voted though. From the look of things there's a reasonably high turnout although this is the first time in years I've been during the day so may be bias there.

My prediction is for Cons still in the lead with a broadly similar share of seats but big numerical gains for Lab that fall short of flipping the seat. Basically, we're screwed.

Yeah Facebook's echo chamber filtering is definitely blocking out a lot, the people on my friends list who are right wing that I haven't immediately unfollowed for liking Tommy Robinson's page but can't fully unfriend to avoid awkward conversations - one of the many things we Brits fear more than terrorism - have their own echo chamber and it looks bigger

I'm expecting Labour to lose, but to do better than expected and for May to lose any mandate or respect she ever mistakenly had
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I don't think I'm going to be able to get up the road to vote this evening. Which is frustrating yes.
But on a cynical note, sinn fein have had west Tyrone locked up for years, and the alternatives are usually such a bunch of arseholes that I wouldn't want to vote for them or are independents that don't stand a chance

Oh I'm under no illusion about my Facebook results versus what will actually happen but it keeps getting my hopes up!:D

Genuinely feel a bit sick when I think about tomorrow morning. Jezza got my vote. And the local Labour guy is pretty cool so it was an easy decision in the end (no clear tactical direction to go). Peter Lilley stood down and they parachuted a candidate in so kind of potential but I think Hitchin and Harpenden are going to stay Blue. Because rich people who have always been rich are twats. Basically.

The problem round here is that people don't realise how privileged they are so they're afraid that Labour will take their money off them. They don't understand how many people have so much less. Doing the local baby activity circuit the last year we have so much free council run stuff and opportunities to get help and advice. My cousins back home up t'north have nothing like it for their kids. Services don't get cut here, they just get rebranded if they were Labour initiatives and people don't even realise. It's depressing.

Interesting at the polls.

Not exciting.
But interesting at least

Well I'll be astonished if the BBC exit poll is correct.

Con to lose 17 seats.
Labour to gain 34.
Lib Dems to gain 6
SNP to lose 22.

If it's right it means Tories remain largest party but the other parties together (the 'progressive alliance') will be equal to them.

Interesting.

Not exciting as I don't see them being right

I'm most sceptical about that. I thought SNP would lose some seats, but nowhere near that many. But supposedly a fair few of those are predicted to go Conservative.

Worth noting that in 2015 the exit poll underestimated the Tories by 14 seats.

I hate election night. I always fall asleep about midnight at which point nobody knows anything and I wonder why the heck I just watched 2 hours of David Dimbleby basically saying "fucked if I know" when I could have just gone to bed.

Yeah the exit polls have been wing any Conservative majorities a couple of times in recent memory (2015 & 1992) but I'm cautiously optimistic that this might be a good thing.

The sense of dread about tomorrow is still present though. Want to stay up, got work early in the morning alas.

From Caroline Lucas (leader of Green Party) on Facebook:

"This exit poll is remarkable. If true then the Conservative's look likely to pay the price for their reckless election gamble.

Any Green MPs elected tonight will do all they can to keep the Tories from Number 10, and back a Labour-led Government on a case by case basis.

In the coming hours we will see if the Greens’ leadership on progressive alliance has come to fruition, but early projections from seats such as Brighton Kemptown suggest that our actions have had a truly meaningful consequence. Whatever happens we’re proud that we have worked with others in a handful of seats for the best chance of beating the Tories."

Results come faster from 2am. I think 2015 the result was known around 6am and that was a close one. This might be closer if the exit poll is right.

I'm still up thanks to my son throwing a wobbly. But we did the Brexit result together so he might be a jinx.

It'll be another five or six hours at least before it begins to be called.

One of the Plymouth districts here was turning people away despite having poll cards because an older register was sent out. I've also heard that apparently this has happened in other districts, including one where the Tory winning margin in 2015 was 523 votes. Hmmmmmmm.

Interesting how it was an older register not containing as many new voters and people moving into the area. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Edit: haha I went and googled the source to see for myself and the guy who told me mixed up the Plymouth one and the Keeley Uni one - both had the older register issue but it was Plymouth Sutton and Devonport district that had the t23 marginal win, she'll

Edit the second: I CAN'T SLEEP
