I'm not sure as to the specifics but something like this would have been very VERY carefully planned. I imagine the palace was aware it was happening but in theory they don't need anyone's permission to go ahead if they have enough to go with. I suspect with something this high profile, the reason it has taken so long is because they were lining their ducks in a row in order to be ready to go with interviews etc. immediately. The undercover officers were likely NCA rather than any regional force and I suspect the director of prosecutions and no doubt government officials all had a say in it.

It's good news. Will America follow? Will they heck. They're too busy protecting paedophiles.

That's all really useful perspective.

Given Mummy paying £12million for him to avoid the court case, I cannot quite express how much I hope they bury him.

Yeah, at a certain point he's doing way more damage to the Royal Family (whatever good will remains for them, I don't know) than it's worth to not cut him loose like the chaff he is.

Surprised he didn't manage to flee.

But I imagine he'll probably end up in some cushy luxury prison, if not under house arrest.

It almost makes me nostalgic for the dignity of public beheadings. (And yes I did imagine them putting his penis on the chopping block first...)

Apparently there aren't any luxury prisons in the UK like we have in the United States. He'd get put in a Vulnerable Prisoner Wing though, and possibly in segregation most of the time.

Official statement:

In a statement issued from Buckingham Palace on Thursday, King Charles said: "I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.

"In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all," he continued.

Are the Mountbattens related to the Mountebanks?

Mountbatten is an Anglicization of Battenberg, changed due to anti-German tensions during WWI.
Mountebank derives from the Italian montimbanco, which was formed by combining the verb "montare" ("to mount"), the preposition "in" (converted to im, meaning "in" or "on"), and the noun "banco" ("bench"). Put these components together and you can deduce the literal origins of "mountebank" as someone mounted on a bench - the "bench" being the platform on which charlatans from the 16th and 17th centuries would stand to sell their phony medicines. [source: Merriam Webster]

And then we had Starmer tell Donnie Diddler that no, you can't use our Chagos base to stage attacks on a foreign power the UK is not at war with.

What happened? Why are our authority figures suddenly finding backbone??? I shouldn't complain but it's just weird

I don't know, HMP Wakefield has a very reputable and reliable way of handling nonce prisoners, as was demonstrated in 2025.

Ah yes, a knife to the neck in Monster Mansion... but how hard is it to behead someone with a shiv? Would they have space enough, and time before the prison guards tried to stop them? Perhaps if it were more of a collective effort...

I think that one is more that we've passed the peak of really worrying about Trump, rather than any impressive growth within the UK itself.

In the early days of his Presidency, no-one had a clear idea what the limits of US policy were. The administration was pushing hard to take advantage of the dependencies it had built up (e.g supplying Ukraine) for leverage. And politicians were obviously worried that their country would be hammered by tariffs.

Now it's been tested for a year and the limits of the US are more obvious. I'm not talking about the domestic court cases, though I'm sure plenty of global governments are also eyeing the upcoming midterms, but things like the treasury market.

At the same time, other countries are gradually working to reduce their dependencies. That's going to be a long-term process. But for some of the most painful leverage points, like support for Ukraine, we've already had to start dealing with the US pulling back support. That obviously sucks, but it also makes the threat less effective than it was before.

Basically, it's become obvious the US can't just fight everyone else all the time (or, at least obvious to people who aren't the US President).

Greens took Gorton. Reform immediately spat dummy out and went for the Trump playbook of the vote being rigged, the vote being the result of DA MOOSE LIMBS, the country being taken away by foreigners, etc.

Watching them mald and seethe was fucking beautiful. And it's good to see an area outright reject them and their racist bullshit.

Yes let's blame the Muslims for all the votes for a party lead by a gay Jewish man 🙄 and lets ignore the fact that neither the billionaires behind Deform nor the numerous bots online can actually vote...

In seriousness though this is an excellent result. I doubt it'll change much nationally by the time there's another GE but I'll take the win!

A classified US intelligence assessment reportedly put together on ex-Prince Andrew describes how Russian intelligence officers regarded [him ... as] “useful idiot” [...] Russian intelligence exploited his “sexual proclivities” and “long-standing hatred of his brother Charles” to use him as a front, providing legitimacy to corrupt operations worldwide [...] “It is now clear that US intelligence agencies believe Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was used by both Russian and Chinese spies to further their influence.”
