I'm not sure as to the specifics but something like this would have been very VERY carefully planned. I imagine the palace was aware it was happening but in theory they don't need anyone's permission to go ahead if they have enough to go with. I suspect with something this high profile, the reason it has taken so long is because they were lining their ducks in a row in order to be ready to go with interviews etc. immediately. The undercover officers were likely NCA rather than any regional force and I suspect the director of prosecutions and no doubt government officials all had a say in it.

It's good news. Will America follow? Will they heck. They're too busy protecting paedophiles.

That's all really useful perspective.

Given Mummy paying £12million for him to avoid the court case, I cannot quite express how much I hope they bury him.

Yeah, at a certain point he's doing way more damage to the Royal Family (whatever good will remains for them, I don't know) than it's worth to not cut him loose like the chaff he is.

Surprised he didn't manage to flee.

But I imagine he'll probably end up in some cushy luxury prison, if not under house arrest.

It almost makes me nostalgic for the dignity of public beheadings. (And yes I did imagine them putting his penis on the chopping block first...)

Apparently there aren't any luxury prisons in the UK like we have in the United States. He'd get put in a Vulnerable Prisoner Wing though, and possibly in segregation most of the time.

Official statement:

In a statement issued from Buckingham Palace on Thursday, King Charles said: "I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.

"In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all," he continued.

Are the Mountbattens related to the Mountebanks?

Mountbatten is an Anglicization of Battenberg, changed due to anti-German tensions during WWI.
Mountebank derives from the Italian montimbanco, which was formed by combining the verb "montare" ("to mount"), the preposition "in" (converted to im, meaning "in" or "on"), and the noun "banco" ("bench"). Put these components together and you can deduce the literal origins of "mountebank" as someone mounted on a bench - the "bench" being the platform on which charlatans from the 16th and 17th centuries would stand to sell their phony medicines. They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I'm annoyed that the moniker "The Andrew formally known as Prince" has not taken off tbh
