Trying to decide if I'll attempt a 10.30pm to 3am power sleep and then watch the results come in. I want to see Tory faces in real time and this election is the first in a long time with the potential to raise my spirits.

I was awake through the Brexit result because my son was 2 weeks old. I did not enjoy that slow sink into despair.

Can't say I haven't half wondered if we'll wake up on Friday to all of the polls having been terribly wrong. Doesn't bear thinking about.

I'm genuinely a little amused by how absolutely batshit proceedings have become. You have to wonder how bad Sunak's standing is when Suella Braverman, unhinged witch extraordinaire, is pointing out that he can't decry racism against him from Reform candidates whilst being happy to take money from Frank Hester. I'm not suggesting for a minute the criticism isn't motivated by her desire to be the next leader, but you're running your campaign very badly indeed when even someone that mental can make sensible critique of it.

Also, the Telegraph seem to have given up on the Tories, based on the most obvious bit of wild propaganda for Farage I managed three paragraphs of this morning. According to the reporter he was welcomed as a hero in Clacton on Sea, and she only just stops short of claiming people brought their babies out to receive his blessing (but only just). It would be hilarious if it wasn't about such a hateful goblin.

Yeah their manifesto is legitimately terrifying and it worries me to the core to think they seem to have so much outward support. I am hoping it's just a very vocal minority, but...

I think it's a little inflated due to the outrage factor, Russian troll farms and mainstream medias apparent love for all things Farage, but yeah even though the Tories are down for a pasting I can see them doing quite well.

Double problem, troll farms/fake news and how many people have actually read the manifesto? I would like to think if everyone who thought reform might be ok read it they would turn their backs on them

Even searching for reform uk manifesto (huzzah to what shit my algorithm will throw up for the next few weeks) just gives you "articles" and pro reform shite that says they're going to save the natoin, but not their actual manifesto anywhere.

I want to be optimistic, but when you hear people saying the usual 'I dont really know so I guess I'll vote conservative again' it makes me doubt.

So long as Truss is shown the door I don't really mind; but with all the tories and village idiots around here who knows.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

We've got the Channel 4 coverage on.

I'm no fan of Alistair Campbell but watching him knock chunks out of every bit of nonsense coming out of Nadine Dorries' mouth is wildly entertaining. The fact the rest of the panel have already had enough of her is evident.

Breathing something of a sigh of relief, although the numbers for Reform in the first couple of results were scary.

I like Alastair Campbell. He's a smart guy with a lot of conviction. Possibly too large an ego back in the day but he was successful enough to kind of justify it.

I'm watching BBC, out of habit. Attempted a power nap and it failed. I am always pleasantly surprised on election night how it brings out the decency in the main parties. The usual posturing comes face to face with hard reality and it brings out the best in them. Robert Buckland's speech just now losing his seat and how angry he is at his own party and the way they have behaved is amazing.

Anyway, please keep going like this. But I do not like the Reform numbers.

I nodded off and woke to Nigel Farage's victory speech. Urgh.

Otherwise, happy as larry! In your face, Tories!

The fact that Farage and Tice and 30p Lee all won is not a good one. Just awful, awful people. Jeremy Hunt managed to stay on too.

Greens getting 3 seats is a plus though, as is Jacob Rees Mogg losing his spot!

Low point for the public is that enough people voted for Farage for him to get a seat. Hopefully he does something awful and gets booted kr everyone finally sees him for the wart he is.

Buuuuuutttt
I hope you're gusling your second or third bottle of champs mez!

Actually digging into the results, a scary amount of votes for reform and depressing overall vote count for the tories.

Got up in time to see Truss get the boot. Bit of a close call but finally that patch on the map is no longer blue.

Watching her go is bringing a feeling not unlike that following a really good poo.

Tories OUT.

I am not confident Starmer will be much better, but... well, there's a slim hope, I suppose.

It's a shame the fascist party got as many votes as it did. Our area had a surge for them, which is very disheartening.

The main positive is the Tories are out. The fact Rees-Mogg and Truss lost their seats is beauitful.

The Reform numbers are scary though - I suspect if they didn't exist Labour would still have won but the majority would have been much, much smaller. The only slim positive I think is that there's no way Farage and Anderson will last without saying or doing something reprehensible and facing recall. Not a chance they can pretend to behave themselves for four years.

The Labour candidate who knocked on our door a couple of months back is now our MP, with a convincing majority. That was nice news to wake up to.

Alistair Campbell made a convert of me last night - planning to go listen to some of he and Rory Stewart's podcast.
