I'm reading FoL, i'm loving it, it's slow-going for two reasons, one is that i just have so little spare eyetime lately, and two, as with FoD, i find that i like to read this style of SE's writing a bit slower in smaller chunks and let them settle a bit before moving on. It's a more cerebral read than the MBF were or DANCER'S LAMENT that i blasted through.

All of which is to say this may take a while.

Thusly...

SPOILERS for ALL yes ALL Malazan books by either author.

No posting SPOILERS for later in the book than my last post.

If you can't be bothered with a reading thread then wait... i'll revise the title and edit in a link to the review post when i'm done.

THREE CHAPTERS IN...

Urusander's daughter... Damn there is some dark and grim going on there.

I find it interesting how so many Tiste just accept that their fellow Tiste are changing colors.

The guards on the bridge... i got a serious Rosencrantz and Guildenstern vibe there. it's random philosophy from random characters but it was brief enough.

Silch and Farl's conversation was fascinating. farl trying to hold back a conflict that's already so far along is very in keeping w what we learned about him in FoD.

Rake and Brood... verrrrrrrrrrry interesting. Want more. The shifting burden of bravery and reliance... oh there is so m uch potential there.

The Historian and the Priestess... i just do not get the sense that these two are clever enough to manipulate Rake and Draconus, which means tings will go horribly horribly wrong.

Wareth.... oh, the Hust are recruiting. So much potential with that plotline.

Glyph.... also interesting. The Deniers were sort of reduced to victims last book, will be interesting to see if they can claw back.

Damn.... There go the Wardens. Solid battle scene, and the way the girl killing the boy kicked things off... That was as uncomfortable as I suspect it was intended to be.

So far so good.

Funny, that was my exact thought when I first read about Prazek and Dathenar. Also I randomly stumbled upon them on Malazan Wikia and they also appeared in The Crippled God, but I cannot remember that at all.

Well, according to the wiki, darling Dathenar is female.

Did the two appear in FoD? I can't remember. If FoL is their first appearence this Dathenar has simply no article yet. I don't think that SE would forget the gender of one of his characters. Or what happend with Orfantal in GotM?:p

Yes, they do appear in FoD. What's more, in tCG, they also both appear, and are always mentioned together, which kind of rules out the idea that it's two different characters. Then again, there are two versions of his name. My guess is, SE simply forgot.

*puts Dathenar in the same corner as Orfantal, Varandas and probably someone else also*

Still slo-going, damn i wish i had more time.

Ch4...
Wreneck and Jinia.... i didn't really love these two in FoD, too much the victims.... but this was suitably heartbreaking.

Glyph and Narad Face-Beaten-In-Guy... Faceguy was another low point in FoD for me, mainly because his primary characteristics were iirc being an idiot, rapist, and getting beaten up. That said, linking him to Glyph, who i do like so far, was a nice touch.

Yay, Caplo the Shake assassin is back! His scenes with Rake were among my faves in FoD. Ouch... wtf was that...? ...D'ivers, hints of Dejim and maybe the Deragoth....
Also, the River God is dead.. did we know that?

I finished!Posted Image

River God... I think when Draconus unleashed the Terondai at the end of FoD and dark sorcery bloomed, that was when he died.

Narad..... ooh boy.... well RAFO for now...

Everything Skillen and Krul just discussed blew my mind. ...and the finishing shot... Korabas... dead, but Krul has plans for her...

On the fence about the Thel Akai... some fun there but the way they beat on the dragon was practically comic relief.

Hood`s lieutenants meeting with Gothos... that.... THAT was brilliant and funny.

The Skillen and K'rul sequences are some of the most stunning infodumps SE has ever written anywhere

Orfantal's shadow wolves have left me slack-jawed as well. He's kind and strong. I find it sad how he isn't developed in the MBotF.

11, 12, 13...Thel Akai AND Thelomen... AND Trell and Toblakai AND Barghast apparently. Well, there go a bunch of theories. Someone should neuter Vix.
Oh hi Mael.
It would appear Skillen may have made Moons Spawn.
