Agreed. The judges had to dig pretty deep to find enough of a flaw to boot someone in the first two rounds.

Yes it aired this week but was a rather unimpressive episode compared to the last several. There was a female smith for the 2nd time but none of the 1st 4 contestants had more than 5 years experience. The final challenge was the Nepalese kukri and I didn't think either was quite on par with the finals of previous episodes.

I saw a couple minutes included at the end of the last FiF episode on the dvr. I'd like to watch it but at the same time, I'm still trying to reduce the amount of time I sit in front of the tv...

Is it just me or has the quality of what the smiths have produced in the last several episodes not been as impressive as episodes in S1?

The Katar was better then anything I've seen so far in S2 yeah. I wasn't impressed with either Mora Kris in S1 finale.

Wow missed this thread!

I have been a custom knife enthusiast/collector/gambler for fifteen+ years. Been to Bladeshow, multiple custom knife shows, did the lottery thing in that time. (Usual Suspect Forum 4/2001 Join Date). I have owned about every type of custom knife, but about a year + sold all my customs and bought the equipment. The custom knife industry has really gotten out of control with it dependence toward folders and the scaling of custom blades going from $500-->1500-2k a pop. It's basically like a watch and a status symbol now...

This show is interesting to say the least. I do think the 1st part of the challenge is somewhat arbitrary in the way the blades are tested. That's my biggest gripe with the show. I see why they do it for the mainstream audience, but it would be cool if they had some across the board standards... so everyone could get the view on a cool blade/weapon. I would like them to get some of the Legends of Knifemaking. I think I know why they don't want to join up as your reputation as a good blade smith is really made, or broken about how people view your tool. The collectors are a tough crowd and some people are popular one second and down the next. I could see the said test's above really hindering the pulling any of the giants of this industry. This show could really last longer on this viewpoint.

2nd part: They need to do a Forged in Fire Bracket already. Winners vs Winners.

3rd part: I do so love watching them struggle and watch them do their thing. Really amazing.

Myself: I still need a ton!!! more time behind the anvil and it tough as I'm off late. So I can't really get the chance to it till the weekends. It's hard, but so much fun. If your on the fence go for it.... Go find a local open forge too.

So Season 3 of FiF started last Tuesday, 8/23 but I just got around to watching it now. This 1st episode was a challenge of 4 previous winners, which upped the ante as they all knew the competitors were proven. The initial knife challenge had an added requirement that made things a little tougher on the contestants but the best part of the episode was the final challenge between the last 2 smiths. They brought back the Scottish Claymore for the final test, which had been the final once last season but neither blade made it through the tests. The results were definitely better this time.

The next episode features fan favorite smiths from previous episodes. I would like to see more former champion episodes. Hopefully that will happen more than this one time.

Watched it earlier. I rather liked it. I was expecting Salam to get in final 2 easy. That had to be a bitter Ep to shoot with all past winners.

That was a weird ending test. Why was there no kill test?

Good point. I knew something was missing and that there were usually 3 tests. Don't know why they would've stopped that. It also seems they've dropped the minimum/maximum length requirements for the initial knife forge.

Big Giant Swords was even better. http://www.discovery...g-giant-swords/ AND wiki - https://en.wikipedia...ig_Giant_Swords

I wonder if Discovery will ever bring that back.
