Sorry dude if you think 7 is the emo-est in a world where, say, 8 exists, you are clearly unqualified to partake in this discussion

7 is the Final Fantasy where the main character dresses as a girl to beat up a pimp after getting up close and personal with a dozen burly men in a hot tub, you must be thinking of Advent Children

Also as much as I wouldn't want to to crush your dreams of a Chrono sequel, Chrono Cross already did that, RIP
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I didn't play 8 because 7 was so shit. Tried 9 and 10, and they were so very meh.

4 & 6 forever.

And I didn't ask for a chrono sequel, I said a remake of Chrono Trigger.

I had a weird journey with FF7. I was obsessed with FF6 and played about an hour of FF7 when it was released on the PS1 and hated it--spent the next ten years or so spewing all kinds of hate and venom about the game. Then one day my best friend's brother walked in on me indulging some nostalgia and playing Bushido Blade 2 on my PS2; he said "Why the fuck are you playing Bushido Blade 2 if you never even bothered to play past Midgar in FF7?"

After that I circled back to FF7 and absolutely fell in love with it. I still find the whole first few hours slogging through Midgar incredibly, incredibly tedious, and I still think there are better games (Chrono Trigger being the indisputable greatest of all time IMO) but I do stand firmly in the FF7 camp now.

That said, I'm both elated and apprehensive about this news. i do think the best case scenario here is that Square actually just face lifts the game--keeps the materia system and basic plot points intact--while also smoothing out the wrinkles of the original--improved translation, for one thing.

They'll almost certainly go with voice acting on the remake. Even if it's done super, super well I still think that alone will alter the fundamental experience of the game beyond recognition.

Did you play it when it was originally released?

I remember playing it back in 96(?) and being completely blown away by it. It was unheard of for a game to be this big, for a game to look this good, I mean even today the backgrounds in FF7 are stunning. The amount of storytelling and diversity in gameplay was ridiculous. It seemed like you could do anything and anything could happen.

What I remember especially blowing my mind was it coming on 3 discs. I played that game for perhaps 20 hours, and just as I thought the game was actually ending, you leave the city and whole world suddenly opens up and you realised that the game was only just beginning.

That said I tried playing it again back in 2009 or 2010. I made it out of the city but it has aged a lot.

FF7 was the first game that truly blew me away with its story telling. It had its weird Japanese quirks, but it was so incredibly epic. I also played it in 96 or 97, and there had simply never been anything quite like it. To me at least. When you arrive at the town that was supposed to be destroyed, ah, twas great.

And I agree With Illy. Cloud in the game is not emo as much as he is conflicted. Mostly he is incredibly bad ass while also being - understandably - confused. Advent Children though, that's a different thing altogether.

This has been the best news to come out of E3 so far for me! Got goosebumps hearing that music again!

Edit

Square Enix have done some bad stuff over the years but, and I seriously pray about this, I hope they know that they have to make something astonishing not only utilising max effort PS4 technology (circa Witcher 3 (and better) etc etc) but for all of us who grew up with FF7, who loved it, who still love it and who, like yourself, got goosebumps when I saw what it was.

I've watched several fan reaction videos and that made me tremble even more. It is such an important thing to do and I truly truly hope it is a great re imagining of my most favourite game ever.

I don't care if they delay it so long as it gets done and gets done right!

Might watch that teaser again XD

I'm so lost. So it's a complete reboot of the game??

It is a complete redo of the game with modern graphics and game engine. It's not a port. It's them redoing FFVII completely.

Which is why it will probably take a while to do...but they really will be printing money if they do it up right.

It will sell loads even if it turns out to be awful.... It will sell LOADS if it's good

And I will personally buy it twice if its as good as I want it to be XD
And will never buy another game again if it's not

Square Enix's recently announced remake of Final Fantasy VII may not be the only classic entry in the series to get a major overhaul for current-gen consoles, as series director Tetsuya Nomura has expressed interest in remaking both Final Fantasy V and VI.

"Considering that we have remakes of Final Fantasy up to IV and then we have VII — I’ve been working with Mr. [Yoshinori] Kitase since Final Fantasy V, and we’ve noticed that V and VI are missing. That bothers me," Nomura told VentureBeat. "How come we skipped over those two?"

What?

VIII?

Compared to the two games it's sandwiched between (VII and IX) it's pretty rough. I don't even think I finished it.

Plus, Cloud could kick Squalls butt.

So could Tidus from FFX...coincidentally, fun fact: the Tidal part of my screen name....totally comes from the FFX character name.

Ugh, seriously? FFX is one of my favorite FFs, but Tidus drives me up the wall. He's like A NEW HOPE Luke Skywalker who never gets around to being cool.

Well, Lulu was my fave character in FFX

But Tidus was cool to me, and I liked Luke. Sure he's whiny, but that's okay.

I could really get behind a VI REDO not make. I'd love to see Setzer and Keefka and Terra and Mech Suits and the OPERA on PS4!

VII I think can survive okay, because the characters already had 3d models in the original so they are pretty well visually defined. SqEnix will probably just take the exact same character designs as the original game but re-do them in HD.

The small, pixelated 2D designs from VI (or V, or IV) aren't so clear. I worry SqEnix will make up tons of changes whenever they decide to 'fill in the gaps' in the character designs, environments, etc. Heck, just look at the Playstation release of FFVI - the only difference was they got to add five minutes of cutscenes and they already took that as an opportunity to change the character designs a fair bit.

Given how the last few new FF games have looked, I'm worried that an FFVI remake would end up with too much "updating" of its aesthetics to the new SqEnix design style that, to me, is always some combination of over-designed, over-sexualized and trying too hard to be "hip".

FFX was the first one I ever played myself. It is where I learned the word "confiscated." Good old times.
Nostalgia definitely plays a big parts in these games. I think playing an new gen HD remake of FFVII wont make me as happy as booting up the old one where Cloud had hooves for hands, where all the levels were painted and there was only music with no dialogue. It will definitely lose some of its charm.

Still excited though.
No Touchy.

Yeah if I can't surf a dolphin into an access-restricted town, dress as a lower-case s soldier and fuck up a military parade before seeing my party also disguised as soldiers, including the cat/dog thing tottering around on two legs in a sailor suit, then I'll be very angry.

It is a awesome game! I'm probably biased since its the first one I ever played, but still, its freaking cool as.

Also, squall with gunblade = dead cloud

OK I had fun with FFVIII (don't attempt to decipher the plot, it doesn't exist) but gunblades are extremely dumb and will either break your wrist, break off at the handle, or shiver itself to pieces after firing in any actual confrontation. It's garbage idiocy.

No, you want a giant slab of metal both taller and wider than you are, that's the ticket for sensible combat!

While I'm at it, Tidus is daddy issues personified, Zidane is cool and only ever angsts for less than five minutes total, Butz is the greatest, FFX-2 had good gameplay once you learned to ignore the internal screaming but should have been Jecht, Auron and Braska palling around, and Kefka is boring THERE I SAID IT

Fuck, actually a prequel to FFX would be awesome with Jecht, Auron and Braska. They could call it FFX 2-3... cause its a minus three so its a prequel and its also a three which comes after two....

I will give you that one, the plot is rather confusing :)

In reality a gunblade is a bad idea, and certainly not very practical. There are gunblades that fire bullets, but they are not very effective. But there aren't any that send a shockwave through the blade like in FFVIII. It may not work in real life, it may not be a practical idea, it may be complete idiocy as you say, but IT IS SUCH A COOL WEAPON!!!!!!!!! THAT CANNOT BE DENIED!!!!

Then what are you waiting for? Go forth and become Seed.

I wish I had the time to dive in and play it but tend to avoid RPG's when I cannot dedicate the time they deserve!

I didn't have much luck with FFIX either, I bought that to play through backwards compatibility, got through to the final disk and it just wouldn't play, kept crashing so I went out and bought a second copy of the game... same bloody thing happened, final disk wouldn't work!
