I'm sure I'm "dating" myself here but I'm old enough to have played the very 1st FF on the original Nintendo. To me, it was like Dungeons and Dragons without the need for friends, a dungeon master, all the paper and dice! I can't say I played each of the others, as I hit my twenties and full time working, but I played a few of them. VII is one of my favorites as well as IX and X. I played some of XIII but never finished it. Can't say I cared for the battle system all that much. What's really cool to me is that my kids have gotten into FF and Zelda because we still had the games around! They've played I, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X, at least. We're actually playing IV "together" right now; me on the Wii and they on DS and PSP. It annoys them that I don't have nearly the time to keep up as they do! I think VII is both of their favorites (although my son seems to really like VIII - gunblade!). I think my daughter is in love with Cloud. If this redo comes out, we will HAVE to get them a PS4, if we haven't already.

That's probably why I liked him. At the time I was having serious father issues.

Never played 7, it was during a period where I wasn't gaming much. I missed ps1, ps2, game cube.

I did play and love 2 and 3 on snes, and 2 is probably my favorite rpg ever for nostalgia reasons. 3 was technically better but doesn't touch me like 2. I know the numbering system is wierd and these two have different numbers on different systems. Not sure what the equivalent is.

I have played part of 1 as a port on my phone, never finished it. I also really liked ff legends 1 and two on the original gameboy.

As I heard about the franchise being more scifi based instead of, you know, fantasy, I lost interest but have always regretted missing out on 7 since it was such a big deal.

I played 1, 2, and 3.

Two was my favorite too.

7 sucked. 8 wasn't great, played about halfway through.
The only truly glorious PSX game was MGS

It still destroys me when Palom and Porom sacrifice themselves.

2 as released on SNES in the US is definitely 4 overall. And I agree that it's a spectacular game. The original SNES version (not the re-released or phone ports) is supposed to be one of the hardest games of all time.

Any Tactics lovers out there? I've always felt so-so about the gameplay itself, leaning slightly towards "I like it," but in terms of storyline, I actually think it's one of the most tightly written and cohesive plots of any of the FF games.

How do you rape a cave? Do you ask, "You want to fuck, yes?" hear the echo come back, "Yes... es... es..." and get your barnacle-gouged groove on?

Read this guy absolutely and comprehensively destroying it
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Tactics is awesome. I can't beat it though. I just got way to overwhelmed in the later part of game from enemies.

Oh man. Totally worth taking another pass at it. And the guide Illy linked is just spectacular. One of the beauties of that game is that if you're getting beaten down, the answer is usually a little more complicated than "go level for five hours." But IMHO it's totally worth it as the ending is as neat and clean and powerful as any FF.

I was pleasantly surprised by XIII-2, even though I wasn't really a fan of its predecessor.

IV is definitely worth playing as well.

I've been working my way through the original FFVII - just got thrown into Corel Prison, having SOO much fun!

Looks awesome doesn't it...

http://uk.ign.com/ar...lti-part-series

Just announced though that the remake will be in 3 episodes:

Quote

According to Square, Final Fantasy VII Remake will be "told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience."

That's the first bit of news released I have been disappointed with - I just hope they don't mess with the game style too mich game to game.

Obvious money grab is obvious... Why would they destroy what could have been so amazing.

Is this the wrong thread in which to say I've never played FF7?

+1. Never owned a console, and it wasn't a heavily pirated PC game in UA in the 90s.

I've been mildly interested given its iconic status and recent PC re-releases, but like most old games, I've been holding out until Squeenix gave up and put up a DRM-free version on GOG.
