^ Your troll game is shit son, pick up the pace

Oddly enough, in the original game Aeris was the badass independant female character, while Tifa spent most of the game moping over Cloud, as opposed to their 'delicate maiden' and 'tough tomboy' portrayal later on. Cloud, on the other hand, was not the humourless dreary bore of Advent Children, but a man who could say 'Let's mosey' in public, wear a dress and pretend to be a woman, and hang out in a jacuzzi with a dozen burly men in swimsuits. The Extended Universe was the worst thing to happen to FFVII.

Oh, and while Aerith may be closer to the intended reference to Earth, it sounds dumber than Aeris. There, I said it.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Actually, I'm not trolling. I played it for five hours, threw my hands up in the air, and never was it touched again.

Aw man, you missed the squat competition, the snowboarding, the balancing on a dolphin to get thrown into the air, and the date with Mr T's machine-gun-for-a-hand cousin!

Also, there will NEVER be a better weapon/exp upgrading system than Materia jewels in weapons and armour.

It was (and remains) the easiest and most intuitive exp system in any FF game.

The only one that even comes CLOSE is the Sphere system of FFX.

If you look closer at the numbers you can see it's not actually that dramatic an increase. Still, every one knows how important that game is.

Their president once said that the expense at making it would be prohibitive and really, they should only make it, if and when the company was in trouble. I am not saying that the company needed to make the game, but it is basically like using your one free chance to print money.

Honestly? I tend to just think of it as "Bad Chrono Trigger". But then as the One Guy who didn't enjoy it even slightly I shall keep that to myself so you don't throw stones at me.

Did you play it when it was originally released?

I remember playing it back in 96(?) and being completely blown away by it. It was unheard of for a game to be this big, for a game to look this good, I mean even today the backgrounds in FF7 are stunning. The amount of storytelling and diversity in gameplay was ridiculous. It seemed like you could do anything and anything could happen.

What I remember especially blowing my mind was it coming on 3 discs. I played that game for perhaps 20 hours, and just as I thought the game was actually ending, you leave the city and whole world suddenly opens up and you realised that the game was only just beginning.

That said I tried playing it again back in 2009 or 2010. I made it out of the city but it has aged a lot.

vote Khellendros

That's worse than a sin BOY!

Then perhaps this is also the wrong thread to say that I do actually own FF7, I've just never got round to playing it. To be fair, I only got it about a year ago. I missed the whole Playstation 1 era as a kid.

"You can actually hear your pupils dilate" is the single most ridiculous thing I have read. Ever.

That was the one that made me say to myself...."okay next coffee shop part time job paycheck foes to buying FFVII".

I'm so lost. So it's a complete reboot of the game??

It is a complete redo of the game with modern graphics and game engine. It's not a port. It's them redoing FFVII completely.

Which is why it will probably take a while to do...but they really will be printing money if they do it up right.

I've never played FF7 either. Nor 1-6.

Phew, they're just redoing FF7. Call me cynical, but I would be really worried if they had decided to try and redo FF6, I don't think they could do it without messing some part of it up quite a bit.

I think everything prior to 7 is pretty safe. FFVII was the first to really jump up to the next level of RPG....FFVI (or FFIII) is the last of the old type of RPG and I have doubts they'd do anything with that.

Well Chrono Trigger was probably the best JRPG ever made so that's like saying medium steak is worse than rare steak, sure it's not as good but it's still delicious and you'd eat it over many, many things like tapioca or smelt.

Maybe in '99, when I started playing RPGs. I was a bit young to RPG in '96 (I'd have been 8-9). Chrono Trigger was actually a game that I played afterwards (I only played FF7 for about 5 hours before I put it down). I still maintain that the last good game Square did was Secret of Mana 2.

Eh, I'm with BK, leave it alone. I'd much rather they focus their efforts on making something as new and groundbreaking as FFVII was than redo a beloved game with new graphics/controls etc.

That is much riskier though, and if they need a quick cash infusion, well this is probably the way to do it.

Hi there! I'm the obligatory one guy who thought FF7 was terrible.

I agree with you. The Emo-est of Final Fantasy games, where all the women spend all their time longing for men and the men or whiny little shits, and somehow this is the 'best final fantasy of all time'.

People need to try 4 and 6 and see what good Final Fantasy games are like.

On the other hand, I'd buy a console for a real remake of Chrono Trigger.
