Finale.

Oh boy...

Spoiler

Overall, the show still makes some very odd decisions but I think this series has been far stronger overall, and that's far and away the best finale we've had (not a particularly high bar, you may say). I will be sad if it doesn't get renewed.

Re your gaslighting comment Tiste, I know you stopped at book 4, but through a jaundiced eye half the characters in the book are guilty of it in some shape or form

I don't recall the comment but main gripe with the series is how, with only a few exceptions, the characters were awful (IMO). Loial is great and I like Thom (who they seem to have ignored in the show aside from a short s1 appearance).

RJ created a fascinating world with deep backstory and lore and utterly ruined it by being terrible at character work and dialogue.

finished the other night.
Agree with most of the comments.

Decisions are made for reasons beyond storyline, for example peoples calendar and availabilthy and so writers have to adapt.

With that said, they made Faile likable, so already they have won.

They've taken a lot of the "good" characters gas lighting out.

still a few hinky moves that make no sense without knowledge of the IP

I have finished it and I think I basically also agree with everything TRB (among others) has said. You all know my thoughts on the books so I don't feel any kind of worries about how they've done things vs how they should have done them, and my wife has never read them so she's in the same boat. We loved this series more than the first two, there was so much good in it!

Its pretty much our board pastime really.

For what it’s worth, I also agree with TRB post, solid solid season and a great finale.

Wow, they really compressed the shit out of WoT didn't they?
Nice to see they pruned a lot of the pointless stuff though, including the cast of thousands.

Nice to see Faile isn't so annoying.

While it wasn't perfect, it's better than S2. Which was better than S1. So at least they're improving as the story cracks along.

Well, bugger. :(

I was enjoying it for what it was.

Has any other production company shown interest? Not that I've seen, but it's only been a day since the announcement.

A real shame when it had hit its stride this series. I had begun to wonder though the longer time went on - if they had greenlit now it would have been a very long wait for the next series.

It would be great if it could be picked up by another streaming service, but I could imagine them all looking sideways at the fact it didn't meet Amazon's viewing figures (I assume) and wondering why it would be any different for them.

What bothers me is that for all intents and purposes its viewing numbers were solid, even if they weren't quite what S2's were, and people genuinely seemed to really enjoy the show.

This cancellation has once again put into the spotlight that letting MBA's decide what shows and stories get to finish based on monetary shit instead of art is a massive problem. Why should people invest in a show if the chances it gets cancelled before the whole story gets told is high? Netflix has done this a LOT, and but this is a first for Amazon, who for the most part (barring shortening EXPANSE) have let their original content finish. And It shows a glaring problem in the streaming era where people are just going o lose faith, not watch stuff in the first few seasons and then they will get cancelled anyway for not getting watched...it's a vicious cycle. And it's stupid. Like let's go back to ad-based revenue TV...at the very least most TV shows got to finish back then. This is just shitty.

My hope is that someone like Apple or Netflix pick it up....I know Netflix is bad for canceling stuff too, but they picked up "cancelled" COBRA KAI from YouTube, and then ran it for 4 more seasons and allowed it to end naturally. I would love Apple to snap it up...they have lots of Sci-Fi or Sci-Fi adjacent stuff, so this would be a feather in their cap for Fantasy.

But yeah, at this point I'm just dejected by the streaming model being so fickle based around shareholder bullshit.

also, doesn't RoP cost like three times what WOT cost?

Bezos is a huge Tolkien fan so I'm guessing that has something to do with it.

I saw a theory that Bezos is actually the one that writes the scripts for RoP which makes a fair amount of sense actually!

I feel like he's a huge Gollum fan, since they share visual characteristics.
