Ian McDiarmid back to voice Emperor. And check out that owl. I'm still thinking Ahsoka/Daughter link there.

Yeah, Filoni hasn't been exactly quiet that Ahsoka will be back in some form.

And McDiarmid back as Emperor is a pretty great get on their part (though Sam Witwer did do a good job when he played him) since you can't beat the original voice!

I think Ahsoka has been back, in several episodes already. And Anakin.. Anakin and the 'Son' = Vader. Vader, years later, realising he has a son; Anakin fights back, rejects possession, re-emerges in time to kill Emperor.

I like it because even if it wasn't intended I can watch it that way.

No, I mean back after her showdown with Vader at the end of S2 finale which she APPEARED to walk away from alive in an epilogue shot.

She may have initially survived, but it doesn't mean she hasn't since died/transformed/returned as an avatar presence to guide the others. I think the owl even appeared perched on Bendu at one point but I don't remember where I saw it.

The suspense, gravitas, and pacing shown within just the first 10 minutes of S04E10 far surpass the entirety of The Last Jedi. This show has grown so much over the past 4 years, and I'm so excited for this arc's completion. Resuming play now...

EDIT: Hera's torture scene with the Imperial mind probe, while brief, was surprisingly tormenting. And the lighting this episode is magnificently understated, yet cinematic af.

EDIT2: Wow. Those eyes. Wow.

EDIT3: S04E11. I feel like Thrawn put a tracking device in the Kalikori

I think it's interesting to see that a show like REBELS which DOES push into new territories with brand new characters (under Disney's reign), abilities, and ideals is able to basically do much of the same things that Rian THOUGHT he was attempting to do in TLJ...and why HIS attempt failed so hard for some of us.

David Filoni (as Lucas's protege) fundamentally understands what Star Wars is and what it should always come back to when it is pushing new boundaries, and it's reflected in the fact that REBELS never DOESN'T feel like Star Wars....where I feel like TLJ simply doesn't.

I would argue that Rogue One also comes from the Filoni school of "understanding"...and it LOOKS like SOLO does as well on the surface?

I know some people argue that TLJ will one day be looked at like TESB as "the best"...but I really don't see it. I have a feeling it's going to be regarded as the anomaly that it is. Especially because I think JJ and Terrio are going to retcon a lot of Rian's more terrible decisions (expect Rey's past to be more than Ren implied, for example), and it's going to make TLJ look sillier as a result.

Sadly, iTunes has not updated with the most recent REBELS eps yet on my seasons pass...so I'm still waiting...rather impatiently too!

(Seriously, are we ever going to have a SW thread again that doesn't have 'I didn't like tLJ' posts all through it?!)

10 and 11 were both excellent episodes, in many ways. On Rebels Recon, they mentioned how Filoni left the last two pages out of the actors script. He waited until they recorded the episode, took them individually to one side and showed them his drawings/storyboard for the ending of 10; then let them record the last scenes while it was all still fresh.

I liked the subtlety of the Chopper scene.

And the
Spoiler

Only 4 more episodes to go. I really hope there's something Filoni-based on the horizon to fill the void when this finishes.

Nope. He's shoved a permanent wedge into the fandom (that was already split after the prequels). It will be a talking point until enough time and other GOOD material has passed to make me forget about it.

I think you can bet solid money on this, and I feel like it will be announced not too long after REBELS ends, and you MIGHT even see a first ep or a trailer for a new show at San Diego this year.

I get that people don't like tLJ, what I don't get is the constant comments about it in the threads about other SW material, and the 'I didn't like it so no one else should' vibe that goes with it. We know people hate it, what Rian did, how its 'not Star Wars' - do we really need the same paragraphs repeated ad nauseum in every SW thread? I'm looking forward to Solo, but I expect that thread will soon be filled with how it does things better than tLJ, how Rian ruined it all etc.

Ah well, it's a shame, but at least there are other places to discuss SW with people that like it, so carry on!

BK there have been hints that Filoni will get a live project. Although he's so good at the animated series that I wouldn't mind another.

I mean, what Whisperzzz said makes sense in context. I'm the same. Getting more out of REBELS than TLJ when the skew is the same for both products; new characters some related to our old heroes, some not, a new unexplored era, new force powers and philosophical discussion on that ect.

...that's topical in my view since TLJ is still so fresh. REBELS is doing/trying many of the same things as TLJ, but broadly succeeding (as far as I can tell) instead of dividing the fanbase/audience. The comparisons will largely write themselves. As the latest big main saga piece....TLJ is going to be compared to everything else until IX comes out probably.

Shrug.

I'm really y starting to wonder what Filoni will be in charge of next. Disney would be BEYOND stupid to not continue to use him as a show runner for a future venture.

Just watched these two eps last night...and yeah, they REALLY pulls out all the stops. The animation, the score, the acting...just stunning across the board.

Spoiler

And yeah, I could see Thrawn having put a tracker in the Kalikori.

Yes, this is the way to shoot those types of scenes. The best directors and producers will do this on lots of shows. It REALLY helps get the most raw performance out of your actors...as they LITERALLY get to mourn the action in real time.

Indeed. Quiet. Understated. It opens up Chopper a bit and shows a different side. And for an essential non-speaking character...that's impressive.

Also, can I just say HOW much I appreciate the grey logo on white with ashes floating across it for both Eps 10 and 11 (not sure if that continues in 11 and 12). It was PERFECT, and accompanied the silent credits well.

Gods, I love this show.
