It’s Anime. The rights for Anime X-Men content were not a part of the Fox deal as Marvel and Madhouse studios made a deal back in 2011 that lasted through the merger. I would expect whenever that deal is due for renegotiation in the next few years it will shift to D+

Nah. He literally had the chance to audition for it with INCREDIBLES 2 and blew it because while fans of that movie series liked it (and I think it was a critical success too) it's not what the FF needs to be for the MCU. If you put a Brad Bird FF into the MCU I feel like it would tank. He did "Family superhero" fine when it was a new creation...but he did it with a couple of hackneyed scripts for kids. He also did TOMORROWLAND which tanked and Disney was not happy. I don't know why people like Brad Bird so much. Even Ghost Protocol is only so-so. Like I legit don't get what's so good about him as a director. He's MOR at best.

Watts made two VERY successful recent films in the Superhero genre, successfully bridging the MCU and Sony and gets the "family" vibe needed for FF.

Tbf like Incredibles is a top 5 superhero film for me whereas I found Homecoming bland and didn't even get through Far From Home, so yeah, I disagree very very muchly with you on this one.

Well Phase 4 officially kicked off today with the first two eps of WANDAVISION.

The attention to detail in the “old sitcoms” format (I LOVE LUCY for ep 1, and BEWITCHED for ep 2) is impeccable. And every time something weird happens and pulls Wanda SLIGHTLY out of what’s going on...the camera jumps to a non-sitcom angle and I was super impressed by that.

the reveal on what’s truly going on...you get a tiny fragmented snippet at the end of ep1, appears to be a slow burn as both Wanda and Vision sort of question some of their sitcom surroundings...Vision wondering what the paper pushing company he works for actually DOES. Or Wanda tripping up on where they met and arrived in Westview from. The biggest real world things we’ve seen so far are

The commercials

A Stark brand toaster.
A Strucker (as in creator of Wanda and Pietro Hydra scientist baron von Strucker) watch (with a Hydra logo)

And the Beekeeper...which in the comics are the workers of AIM (mad scientists pushing envelopes last seen in IM 3 and headed up at the time by Aldrich Killian during the Extremis project)

And the drone with the SWORD logo on the side...and speaking of SWORD...Neighbour Geraldine is Monica Rambeau!

Anyways, roll on the next eps. It’s a weird show, but you can tell it’s a big puzzle of a show on purpose.

I let my son watch the first Avengers movie. I always said I wouldn't let him watch stuff he wasn't officially old enough for but pandemic lockdown makes a person desperate. He knows all of the characters anyway from the kids at school - he loves Cap despite never having seen him on TV.

His favourite Avenger is The Hulk. Mainly because his favourite colour is green and he can totally identify with someone who lives to smash stuff. I don't think any others are suitable though. I'm desperate to watch Jurassic Park with him because he loves dinos but I need to keep my cool as I think he shouldn't be ready to see people being eaten. Off the top of anyone's head are any of them not particularly big on fighting or death? Suitable for a 4 year old? I remember the general themes of them all but it's the little details that catch you out with young kids. We watched Back to the Future with him and the word "shit" comes up a lot and you realise the theme of the movie is essentially learning to punch someone in the face.

I'm slightly stressing he will go back to school and call someone a "mewling quim".

WANDAVISION Episode 3 was probably the best of the lot so far...and now I think I know what's going on sort of.

Okay, so I assumed that we were in Wandas head...it turns out that's not the case. There is a real town of that name, and in it is a bubble of reality (Wanda probably created) where Wanda makes the rules, and when the outside world tries to gain access she shuns it and things go sideways, like when the guy in the first ep asked about their "past" and she made him choke and made Vision save him....and rewinding when they saw the beekeeper (AIM).

So my guess is that the residents of the town and characters on the sitcom are ACTUAL residents of the town where Wanda created her bubble reality. The beekeeper was AIM trying to gain access through the sewers underneath it, and the toy helicopter was SWORD gaining access through the air (and like dropped off Geraldine/Monica Rambeau), and the thudding in Ep 2 was either SWORD or AIM attempting to gain entry. In this ep we get Herb and Agnes talking to Vision while Wanda isn't there to almost break the veil that they are all trapped. This tell me a few things. Wanda isn't creating people out of thin air...those people are real, they are just puppeted on her strings, which makes me realize that she probably somehow reanimated Vision from Death. Wanda booting Geraldine/Monica out confirmed the bubble reality, and the real town is surrounded by SWORD agents. They could also all be dead like Vision...but that doesn't track for me...

There are some strong rumours about what happens next. The next ep is a FAMILY TIES homage, more specifically the episode where Tom hanks showed up to play the raging alcoholic uncle...(referenced by Bettany in the interview where he revealed all the sitcoms they spoof/homage)...my guess is that we will see Pietro...but since the MCU Pietro is dead as of AoU, Wanda is going to ACCIDENTALLY reach into the Fox-X-Men reality and rip the Evan Peters Quicksilver into the MCU one (there is a tweet of Bettany in QS garb with Peters in the foreground with his QS hair)...I imagine that this MIGHT be a hole in reality that Wanda can't fix...and we are seeing the kickoff of the multiverse that will play so heavily into Phase 4, like DOCTOR STRANGE 2: The Multiverse of Madness and Spidey 3.

We also have not yet seen Darcy (THOR 1 & 2), and Jimmy Woo (ANT-MAN cop) yet and we know they show up.

We also know that the 5th episode is a Malcom in the Middle homage, and 6th is Modern Family homage...and that 7-9 are in our world proper and act more like an MCU movie with no more sitcom references.

So I think that Wanda created the reality, it's messing things up and both AIM (evil) and SWORD (Space SHIELD) are trying to gain access to her to stop it...Monica getting the closest before mentioning Ultron and getting booted.

This show is bizarre, but I have a feeling the complete thing will be a masterpiece. It just feels weird because it drops week to week and would work better as a bingable 9 eps all at once.

Is there a general theme with each episode of Wandavision? I haven't really followed what the show is about, other then the earlier trailers had me confused. But I get the feeling each episode is staged to give viewers nostalgia feelings of classic sitcom tropes from the 70s/80s and really locks in on that particular theme throughout the episode. Is that the case?

I'm not so clear that Wanda is "conscious" of what she's doing, or if she is in a semi-conscious state of some kind that leaves her powers leaking into the real world. Obviously something real has to be contained by the agencies you mention. Maybe a dream state is a little too Matrix-y, but the extent to which all of this stuff is being monitored from the outside is interesting, if still up in the air. I'm not suggesting a dream state negates that this is a real town with real people being 'trapped' in her construction. But the nature of their seeming antagonism towards Geraldine being around Wanda, for instance, leaves me thinking there's still room to believe that there's a hostile force at work too, and something is being done to Wanda, at least in terms of manipulating her in her grief-stricken state. In other words, there is an antagonist outside of Wanda.

The opening scene was absolutely outstanding. Showing the "unvanishing" from the POV of someone brought back was really clever (and confirms the Far from Home notion that people who have been "blipped" have zero memory of the whole thing, which is probably for the best) and they leaned into the chaos of it, whilst as usual completely lowballing the fact that the Earth suddenly has to feed an extra 3.5 billion people overnight (they could have at least mentioned that Hulk also created tons of extra crops and food supplies).They also established the timeline: this is three weeks after Endgame, potentially before the events of Far from Home.
