Daughter of Crows is what Mark does best, write some top quality grimdark with twists and turns, gut punches, lines that stop you in your tracks, author shenanigans and epic hell yeah moments.

At first I was thinking am I going to enjoy reading about an old lady but that concern was eliminated within the first couple of chapters.

I wrote a long post previously with quotes from the book and comments but it didn't post for some reason and I lost it all, don't have the time atm to go back over it.

The book is definitely a recommend though, I know some people struggled with the Library series but I've spoken with them and like me, they loved this book.

One point to note - when you open the book ignore the Contents page / chapter titles as very annoyingly, it can spoil character arcs when you understand the book structure.

Look at page 66, bottom left margin.

(you'll need an infrared light, cedar bark smoke, and some LSD)

I dunno man, that does kind of seem like the kind of thing the Irish might invent.

Quote

the libation ritual comes up again and again in Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. In Book VI of The Iliad, Hector's mother tells him "Wait till I fetch you some sweet honeyed wine, first to pour a libation to Zeus and the other gods, and then for your relief if you will slurp up the wine from the grass after the gods have consumed its spirit."

I was picturing a sort of Matcha Beer made with some grass in place of hops?

I was picturing a sort of Matcha Beer made with some grass in place of hops all over the ground and Mac like shoving his face in the grass trying to get at the booze like one of those specially trained truffle hunting pigs?

Heat me out, we buy a prison, school or library and either way we convert it into the worlds first prison-school-Library. We make Mark Lawrence the headmaster. We send in children aged ten. They can be released after they successfully right a trilogy that lands on the new york time best sellers list or they die. Whichever comes first.

... and it needs to be a prison so they don't use AI.

With 24-hour omnipresent demi-omniscient AI surveillance just to make sure they're never using any AI...
