Will the book of the ancestor get a sequel? I feel like that story wasn't quite finished? I tried some quick googles but can't seem to find if anything has been said on the subject.

Have you read all of Mark's books?

I haven’t finished the library trilogy and haven’t read the impossible times books but otherwise yes.

Learned from Mark Lawrence's blog post today that their cat Wobble died suddenly.

Behold the fluffy glory of that cat:

Ah ok, well you have the tie-in with:

Spoiler

Also the new book series I wouldn't be surprised if it is connected in some way with:

Quote

The Academy of Kindness exists to create agents of retribution, cast in the image of the Furies—known as the kindly ones—against whom even the gods hesitate to stand. Each year a hundred girls are sold to the Academy. Ten years later only three will emerge.

Sweet Mercy / Academy of Kindness plus there is a similar named one in the Jorg series too. Unless Mark just likes that naming scheme.

Yeah, that should work. Mark respects strength.

It is important, when threatening a Mark Lawrence to ensure that you bring a threat of sufficient size.

All this is conjecture because I don't believe Mark to be a liar so...

I think book of the ancestor and book of the ice are unfinished though? There is a story that needs to be fleshed out more.

Prince of thorns could have a follow on trilogy but the trilogy had a satisfying conclusion. Also yes, the connections are between all the books are there.

Book of the Ancestor and Book of the Ice are 'complete', in the sense that if Mark never goes back to that world it's a complete story in six parts with a satisfactory conclusion.

Same can be said to Empire of Thorns and Red Queen's War, the story is as done as it need to be. There's no cliffs hanging, no massive mystery so core to the story that leaving it unsolved is unfair to the reader.

That said there's a metric fucktonne more he could choose to write in either world (yes yes i know about the theory they're the same world in different times) if he wanted to, and i woudn't complain because i enjoyed both very muchly.

No story is ever completed. A reader can always wonder what would happen in the world tomorrow. Prince of thorns had a an antagonist whose threat was neutralized and a global/universal threat that was ended and our main characters story wraps up. Red queens war is a separate, very enjoyable side story that also actually without us even being aware of it has an important role in thorns.

In comparison Ancestor ends with a victory but it’s by no means complete. The world is also overflowing with plot hooks and mysteries. Some are revealed in the prequel but a prequel by its nature can’t resolve the sequel. I enjoyed the books but I hope we revisit.

I think I will do a reread In any event

I'm kind of waiting for Mark to reveal his 'Cosmere agenda' so i can do a complete reread and be duly awe'd.

Is this the book where you finally acknowledge that Tiste Simeon is in fact superior to Macros?

Pre-order the hardcover and find out, it's the only way to be sure!

I might consider buying hardcovers (or non-e-books in general) again if they came with holographic projections of gigantic animals (crows or fluffy cats or humans, as the situation calls for). And that would make for some "performative reading" I could appreciate...

Maybe they're curled up in those so far invisible dimensions... we'll have to look harder.
