The thought of Abyss roaming Europe at will is somewhat disconcerting...

Admit it, you love the idea.
It's like swimming in the ocean and knowing sharks are out there somewhere. Or yetis. Or herpes.

Or yetis with shark herpes. :(

Meanwhile, in Australia... :p

I would agree with others on UK driving distance. It may look ok on a map but there is not much relaxed open road so even if you do cover the miles in good time it is quite taxing for the driver.

I agree with Abyss on the number of days in Zurich/Rome/Munich. Unless the plan is to use those places as a base and travel around. I love Rome but the unmissable stuff can be done very easily in 2-3 days then I would recommend Florence. I got bored after 2 days in Munich and would recommend trying to see some of those fairy tale castles if possible.

Either way, you're going to have a blast and also be flat broke at the end :-)

Even the motorways are a chore. 275 miles (Barnsley to Weymouth) will usually take me a minimum of 5 hours' road time, traffic depending.

Yay, you're coming to Vienna!!! And just at the right time, when I will be home too!!! A lot of beer and fun will be had! :p

Regarding Abyss' comments about Vienna, he is only partially right. The advantage of Vienna is that, if you get bored of Apfelstrudel and Melange, you can always hop on a bus in the morning and an hour later (for just 16 Eur both ways) get off in the centre of Bratislava and have a great half-day or one-day visit to another beautiful Central European capital that you would otherwise have missed. Same with Budapest - you have your Eurail pass, the journey doesn't take long - and Budapest is really, really worth seeing.

I do agree however with Abyss on Zürich. It IS shit expensive and not particularly exciting. :wallbash:

Four days in Munich are also a bit of a stretch, unless you want to do a day-trip to Salzburg, which I would highly recommend.

Btw, I am really curious to know what kind of tour you are doing in Croatia, since there is a possibility I will be in the country at the same time you are there. Driving down the coast or doing the continental parts as well...?

In any case, I'll send you my contact details closer to April. If you need any tips regarding hotels in Vienna or Prague or Zagreb, let me know, these are the cities in which I feel quite at home. :)

Good luck with the preparations!

The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues.

I found Rome to be excessively touristy and wouldn't give it a whole week, I'd say 3-4 days would be fine. Florence was by a distance the best place I visited in Italy. If you're considering Venice, it's best as a day trip (and honestly quite missable). Arrive in the morning, wander around, go out on the water, wander round, leave in the evening. It's small, packed with tourists, relatively pricey to stay in, and there's really not much to do there.

Blaaargh, pressure is on at work to wrap things up before I go on leave and we have typically left most of the booking of stuff to last minute. Also typical of me, I've made a spreadsheet with everyone's suggestions on it to accompany the itinerary planner I linked earlier.

:D *Brain implosion* :p

On the upside, in four weeks' time we'll be on holiday :D

Totes would have done if I still lived there. I have played gracious host & tour guide to Anomander, Rodeo and Centz in the past but that is over now :D

If you could possibly manage to get to Exeter instead, that would mean I only have a hour long train journey to meet up with you guys instead of a 2 hour plus trip. Also I am very disapproving of your giving in to this cavalcade of suckers who think you couldn't have made it down my neck of the woods >:C
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I live in the south of England at the minute( near Oxford), I'm only new to this forum but if we become bestest friends by the time y'all meet up I'm probably up for it. There will be booze and strippers, right?

Hood's Breath .. Tiste Simpleton's still here!

Rumours of my demise are I am afraid somewhat premature, though maybe I'm just back as a T'lan Orfantal, or perhaps I was a ghost in Karsa's mighty weapon, or possibly I'm a left behind Kaminsod body part.....

It was just a phase I was going through, but the slot was filled and now I can just hang about ....
