I have been a bad townie. A very, very bad townie.
Aside from trying to get us to 600 posts, I haven't been playing the game.
I put out the grouchy gorilla line because I knew that commenting on an alt's features always stirs up accusations of signalling, and Galayn and Ampelas were sooo obliging in taking it further. I made the comment about Ampelas should be voting for Monok for the same reasons, because I knew it would get people talking about Monok.
I wanted to see Monok lynched from the beginning. I supported him on day 1 because I wanted those feelings of me symp to his master to grow.
Unfortunately, Galayn first being unable to avoid the spotlight, and then turning out to be scum (and I really, truly didn't think that would happen) really put a huge spanner in the works. So I tried, half-heartedly, a different tactic today.
In my read-up of Galayn, I found a fair few posts which would suggest that he and Monok are not linked. I, of course, ignored those and didn't bring them up.
Having said all that, this is not me saying that Monok is inno. The posts suggest he might be, but nothing is certain. In any case, that was not why I was throwing in things which would attract suspicion his way.

Godsake, 600. and now my headaches from squinting at my phone through all that "dialogue." I'm not sure how to process such volume without a reread or five, but from what I've seen on Tiam, even that last ditch effort to admit fake symping someone (or was he?), i can get behind this vote. i will say i am concerned that so many posts were expended on one individual when we have so many other people, such as myself, unexamined (unless you count MO's omgus case).
so first:
vote tiam
and i'll continue rereading on my bus ride home. forgive me if i can't reach the heights displayed today.

Ugh, this is going to be complicated. day 2 is when things start getting muddy, especially in a spam fest like this. i think now that we located a noisy, messy scum person we should also begin glancing through the more squeaky clean and forgetable players, both talkative and quiet. i really don't want to let go of my hardon for MO until i can get a climax, but i figure i am doing bo favors not looking through the remainder of the line up. i'll try to piece together a case in a bit, and just work through some info while we wait for lynch/day's-end.

so even though he's taken some heat already, i started with eloth. so far my read is of someone clumsily working through the game, bumbling and fucking up left an right. he hammers by accident, gets mixed up on the general posts = level count, and while talkative, doesn't provide much in the way of substance. if town, he is a busy person who isn't paying close enough attention. if scum, he could be making the classic mistake of just coasting along trying to let town eat itself up.
i need some quotes, but i need a home computer first. i am almost home tho.

Here is the beloved quote vomiting that I'm sure everyone reads carefully, several times memorizing the content before developing a well thought out reply.
Day 1 Eloth is not all that impressive. Misunderstands the OP, fucks up the lynch, and makes sure he is on the train of a scum player.
^^ the underlined. The OP not only suggests that individuals can level up outside the post count & fatality rate mechanisms it basically screams that such method is tied to the character origin state/continent/federation.
I'm still not sure what Eloth was getting at with the above two posts. People leveling up faster than others? And that the OP suggests this? Dunno. Either confused town or scum muddying the waters.
I'm happy to see that I was only half full of shit. At that particular time.
*excess quotage snip*
GL seems to be pushing to level as fast as possible regardless of day/night interactions. Level 2 was a sure thing. But we're getting very close to level 3 before day times out. That conflicts the hell out of me. I want a lynch but I'm not convinced of the case on GL. The signaling case is as good as any signaling case, meaning total bollocks.
Further discussion puts us into level 3. So I'm going to hold my nose and
Vote GL
Oops. While I was typing that, Alkend's stupid question reaks of padding. But ...
Vote GL
Wait, wait, rewind. Makes sure he is on the train. Could Eloth have hammered, even though such an action would draw attention, to prove townie-ness by bringing down scum? I would bet dollars to dimes scum was on GL's train for such a reason, but either very early in the train, before it had any notion of picking up steam, or very late, when the train was already running at full tilt. Keep in mind that Rikkter, OL, and Amp also fall into this suspect pool. I plan on at least addressing the first 2 later, if I have a chance.
Just out of curiosity were did you learn how to count?
lv 1 = 120 posts
lv 2 = 240 posts
lv 3 = 360 posts or 4 dead now 3 need. That seems a bit overkill for a TMDI 2 game with only 13 players.
No, they went to level 3 on the 240th post.
And then early day 2, in addition to getting defensive over his early hammer, here is more OP/game mechanics misunderstanding. As I said, kind of a bumbling start.

misunderstands the OP. this almost has to be deliberate. seriously? you think that each player is going to rack up 500+ posts in this game? he may be confused by what seems to be insinuated by p-s - which is that although everyone levels up at 120 posts aggregate and 4 deaths aggregate (go ahead and argue 4 deaths per player, bek....), there also must be some kind of mechanic that allows certain players to level up outside of these two ways. otherwise why would p-s bother posting who is at what level at the beginning of day and night? it would be pointless if we all already knew we were on the same level all the time. so there must be something hidden here and bek is not only missing it but he jumped off the deep end without a lifejacket in the wrong direction
his refusal to show back up and talk. this is as bad as the first one. i don't care if you think your right or whatever, i don't think we (as malazan mafia players) are willing to afford anyone the luxury of showing up with one post, making a bad case on bad information, dropping a vote, and peacing out with no intention of returning unless his other lynch targets are possible trains. this is so arrogant as to border on stupid.

Day 2, To be fair, Eloth's game play improves markedly. He seems to contribute a lot more and gets involved in the hot topics. Below are some representative quotes to capture this uptick.
Eloth, Tiam and Rikkter's speculation on the lack of night kill also raises my eyebrows a little. I always perk up a little when people start trying to figure out enemy abilities. Enemies love talking about themselves. This is a quick thought, just to put into the gestalt that is Eloth.
I'm thinking that the NK alternates between two people until level X is reached. Or that there was/is only one killer to start with. Etc.
For power ups to mean anything requires that the teams start weak.
You must be drunk? Tapper and traditional do not go well together.
Just had a thought about Amp. Why did you leave GL on L-1 if you thought he was going to defend himself?
Slight nit that needs picked (for my own clarification if no one else's): at the lynch everyone was at level one and your post #240 pushed us to level two? You didn't announce the level at the end of day one.
In my evaluation of Eloth, this quote below seems the most townie of them all. He starts questioning his initial paradigm, shifting view points and arguing another side when the expedient thing for scum to do is encourage tunnel-vision, especially if it is looking completely in the wrong direction.
And finally, below, is the reasoning that leads to Eloth standing by a Tiam lynch. I find it interesting how he mulls over MO, Denul, Amp, and Okral, but settles down on Tiam not MO. Again, I am very suspicious of MO given how he is suspicious but somehow seems to avoid getting more than two votes at a time. But I digress.
So for those skimming along, here are my end conclusions:
Eloth could be scum, but unlikely given his day 2 play.
I do think that we need to keep an eye on those part of the Day 1 lynch train, largely because voting for scum when you know they're scum is a great way to give yourself a townie badge, however subconscious in the mind of others. I also will wait to see how the Tiam lynch turns out and hopefully cross analyze it against Eloth's thought process, but that may be a bit ambitious at this current juncture.

Now we have a CF this does need a closer look at. I noticed this first time round however refrained from commenting for my own reasons. This could be one of two things - signalling or distraction. By putting the bold in GL may have been looking for something to stir up some talk, good towny talk about what it could mean, who it could be aimed at etc, padding the post count with people thinking they're doing the right thing. I'm inclined towards the latter but would like to hear other thoughts on it. In no way do I think it an innocent slip - as someone else said, you just can't bold it without making an effort
I did think it was a mistake. I've done similar myself. Bolded the text, realized that some didn't need to be bolded, highlighted that text, unbolded, missed a couple of letters and didn't notice.
But with the CF I am less inclined to think accident. But if signaling, who? Assuming you're correct about the off thread comms any signal would have to be aimed at a third player, no?

We're putting a fair bit of weight on that GL initial post being a screw up. I think Rikkter is right about it though. It fits both Occam's razor and Murphy's first law. (Google is your friend if you don't know what either of those are.)
GL, who turns out to be a henchman, has/had off thread comms with somebody. They wanted to code something. Apparently with the letter A.
I'm going to suggest that it was for targeting purposes. Why would they need to do that if they already had comms? What if the comms were conditional? Power ups need a power to up. Level 0 they could only talk at night. Notice that PS edited the OP to say that the game would start in forty minutes. Was that a response to a plea from GL or his corespondent to let them talk a bit be fore the game started? If so, that helps explain why an experienced player would make that initial post screwup more plausible.
I'm going to add to this but want to get that thought out there because it certainly changes the interpretations of some posts if we assume they could not talk during the day.

Had to go out. Back now with some quick thoughts on the more recent posts.
I had the same thought ref Denul and no NK, but for now I'll stick with my theory that GL had the only NK for levels 0 and 1.
Amp (and Orkal) have me bothered a bit due to their non-removal of a GL vote with an hour left. If it was so important to hear the man out why leave him at L-1 and at the mercy of anyone driving by? And then they disappeared after the CF.
I hate signalling cases but the gorilla thing is such an obvous one. But was it intended to paint a target on MO or deflect from him? I currently think the former.
GL had to have realized that somebody would pick up on that initial post eventually. So I'm leery of connections based on the letter "a". Could the 'mistake' with the bolding on "boy" be an attempt to tell whomever to change letters? "b" would be the obvious one.
Of course, if he had off thread comms with somebody else, why need signalling in the first place?? Again, I'll stick with my theory that said comms are limited in some way initially.
If we're going to try to make it to level 5 today we might want to consider whether we want to place votes so early on. I don't want to go into night 2 and day 3 with us at level 4.
I'm going to go back and look at GL's posts with the thought in mind that he was in damage control mode.
For now, if were to vote it would be Tia.

Unfortunately, it is getting late here, so I will defer the other cases until another time. Hopefully I'll catch the talkative crowd next time they rev things up.
