I ran into a huge glitch doing Weekly heroic. All the enemies froze in place but I was still running around unloading clips but doing zero damage. My friend was then griping at me cause I wasn't doing anything...then the enemies sped up and I just died and we failed. Weird.

Bought the rifle, still have a ton of coins too.

As for the raid, my brother is not free / does not have his xbox and I'm probably not free either. I'll let you guys know but we just lost our dog of 12.5 years to old age and have some things planned with the family.

Sorry to hear about your dog, Stalker. B)

We can do the Vault some other time, don't worry about it.

Oh bungie...

I get on today, and get the 'patch' that will fix aetheon cheese (and make aetheon randomize portal targets), and figure I'll throw a group together and give it a shot, right?

Yea not so much. everyone is booted to orbit (or all the way out of destiny) every 5 minutes or so, with 'Monkey' aka (Check your internet connection) error codes. Oh look, you go to bungies site and see a thread by them saying 'please help us determine the problem by posting here where you get the code, your GT, and the system you play on', and you get over 150 pages of replies in under an hour, spread across both networks and all four platforms.

And the highlight of this whole thing is that you slipped in some 'we made network stability improvements' in this patch.

If you honestly think I'm going to pay for either xpack or anything else in light of new games like Sunset Overdrive, Dragon Age, and the Master Chief Collection, you must be fucking mistaken, since your game is nigh unplayable, and you decide to 'fix' people cheesing the boss by changing mechanics and then having people booted to orbit every 5 minutes?

It's relatively clear to me that whoever is making the decisions at bungie has no clue how to admin an mmo, especially since they fix the 'cheese' on atheon, but don't fix the games cheese of killing you, like the 9th oracle, or the gates not working, or splash damage through the shield, or invisible exploding harpies, or anything else that wipes you on hard.

Oh, and by the fucking by, deciding there are no revives on hard mode, and increasing the difficulty, isn't fun. It isn't enjoyable, the mechanics aren't interesting or particularly new, or crazy, or entertaining. It's the same crap as normal, but requiring near perfection to complete, which is fine, if you are going for the 'mmo' mindset, but you aren't you are trying to find some mix, and that mix is taking shit from fps and shit from mmo and mixing it together.

Oh, and every mmo alive that depends on raids for drops has instituted a 'token' system so that after a certain amount of raids if you haven't gotten a piece you need, you can buy it with earned tokens. You seem to have missed that QoL improvement. So, we have a person, like my friend, who got all 3 raid pieces he needs in one week, and is a level 30. Then you have me, with average luck, missing 1 piece for the last 3 weeks, but oh let me tell you, I get a ton of drops of the gear I already have AND xur doesn't have shit for me. Then you have one of my other friends who has yet to get a raid drop after doing it 3 weeks in a row. He's got weapons but no armor, so he can't even go for hardmode.

But guess what, you make patch day unplayable, its a joke. Destiny had literally the smoothest mmo launch I've been a part of. You've been fucking up the netcode after that, making it worse and worse. And don't get me started on the lag in PVP. Punch someone to death? Sure, their corpse will fly away from you in 10 seconds. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of videos of this in youtube.

In short, bungie, I like destiny. I like the game, the lore, the characters. Your first raid was meh. Your hard mode is a joke, because there is no recovery if one person makes a mistake. You keep fucking up the game further and further with each patch, which is mindboggling. Are these the same people that wrote the Halo 2 and 3 netcode? We even have dedi-motherfucking-cated servers for this, there shouldn't be lag like this, and it is for everyone. I have video of a guy lagswitching, I hit him numerous times with a bladedancer, stuck a grenade to his face, and he still killed me, and then died 10 seconds later. Fucking hire some professionals quick, because your game is rotting from what you have done to it, and not so much the playerbase (for once).

^ well said.

It's disappointing, because this game had so much potential, and still has a lot going for it. But they're just not onto it. The bosses for most of the game have no interesting mechanics - they all amount to massive ammo sponges with no real variation (even the few with non-head weak points are still the same story of "shoot their weak points until the adds, then kill the adds and resume shooting weak point....repeat until dead (probably taking longer than is strictly fun) and they all have predictable movement and attack patterns, even if some of them are more mobile, not that it makes a difference).
Where's the fun in those fights? Where are the multiple shield bars which require different attack types to take down? Where are the changing attack/movement patterns and ability sets of the bosses as they get weakened? Different weak points or mechanics to exploit?
Why is the sole engagement with the things you are meant to enjoy fighting basically just spewing ammo at them for ten minutes? That's not fun.
Even Tartarus in Halo frigging 2 had a process to taking him down, and varied his behavior. It was simplistic, and relied on beam rifle ammo, but it worked.
And why do all the bosses have an AoE stomp ability which renders shotguns useless against them, leaving the only viable means of attack snipers and rockets? What sort of game design renders an entire class of weapon almost useless against their toughest enemies? (I know you can use them, but it's functionally pointless and has mostly risk with no reward.)

That's just the Strike bosses, but I've heard little about the Raid that makes it much different, except the need to have one team go do something before the damage can really be laid down.
But should the bare minimum of mechanics be restricted to the end game content, that you basically need to be max level to even try, rather than that being the pinnacle of many other interesting encounters?

And while we're on the subject of tokens, why is it that you have so many earn caps in this game - most notably the one you can only get around by 1) getting lucky or 2) fielding multiple characters? Yes, Strange Coins, I'm looking at you.

If they wanted to prevent people earning into the stratosphere, they should have had in-game money sinks to reduce the build-up. Let's reduce or remove ammo drops, make those synths useful. Let's find items or services the player base wants/needs to use that cost money of all types to reduce their funds, rather than using very low hard caps. Which determined players will still get around.
Never mind that most of the currencies in this game become useless at higher levels. Because you just can't buy the best gear, and that's all you need at high levels.

I suspect Bungie thought it would take people longer to get where they are in this game.
I suspect Bungie had to push the game out faster than intended. Potentially stripped back, too. There is a lot in this game that just doesn't line up with the reveals. A lot of missed opportunities to make team play rewarding and necessary, to build in-game communities, to make public events truly large, challenging, and engaging. The maps surely were meant to be larger and actually accommodate more players.

As much as Deej keeps saying "we're doing this together" etc, etc, I just think that's code for "we have shipped something with more problems and less mechanics than we planned, please stick with us". :unworthy:

And then we get this:

http://www.reddit.co...ase_december_9/

Same price but people on LIVE! don't get half the strikes?

Guess I'm playing Shadows of Mordor until the Evolve Beta this weekend until COD (as much as it hurts me to say) carries me over to DA:I and then the Master Chief Collection (all of which goes to MS and 343 studies, thank god it isn't going to Bungie)... I'm not sure I'm even going to play Destiny again.

Maybe if/when they come out with Destiny 2 in 5 years. I'm certainly not paying full price for shitty DLC (oh, and btw, the raid won't even be available when teh DLC drops).

Yeah, that's pretty shit. Even in terms of the content we're getting, there is not a lot there. Two more Light levels?
Three story bits?

Weak. This was already less than half the game it probably should have been, and now the dlc content is looking half full as well. Can't believe Bungie has dropped the ball this far/let Activision screw them into this position. :unworthy:

Roll on CoD and Far Cry 4,please.

Eh, I've basically stopped playing.

Aside from obtaining more exotics which I can't use at the same time and as likely as not are not *quite* as good as the best legendary gear anyway (except Truth/Gjallahorn and Patience and Time, naturally, those are badass), or playing VoG...there's no reason for me to be playing any more. Once the DLC 'expansion' drops I'll probably pick it up for a while again but I doubt that will even last me a month. *sigh*

It's a load of back-end prep for the coming updates and the expansions.

Things like the optional team chat, too. I think a tweaked Iron Banner is due around Friday as well.

Yeah I looked up the notes. I think it's larger cause there's new land to explore that's been made available. I haven't heard one person yet talking back to me in Crucible so it's still the same.

My new love: sniping unsuspecting Guardians! Esp on Control matches if you can find a good spot. I can headshot 7-10 peep in a match before they obv start hunting me in rage.

You need to be on the team channel to get others talking to you. It depends how many get on there.

@BK. I still haven't bought the 3month PS Plus card that will allow me to play strikes with ya again. I keep forgetting to pick it up when I'm near BestBuy. I'll let you know once I've grabbed one and we can play again.

The game is a 7 out of 10. It could have been a 9. Every time you play this game you will be able to notice how it could have/should have been better and that rankles. I have over 60 hours of gameplay from it though and that's a review of its own.

BK, every time you log in and join a party while the wife and I are watching Netflix, it chimes in that you've done so at the top of the screen, and my wife always laughs and says "That Jedi-Solo guy joined a party again."

It's fairly humorous.

I did seem to notice that all my legendary and exotic weapons are useless since they have all been upgraded but not retroactively. lvl 20 unique guns are now better but not the ones I already own.

Thought it was hilarious when I logged in yesterday for the update to get a gift at the postmaster from Bungie; saying something like "Use these for the battle ahead" and what did they give me f**kn blue items. WTF is the point of these? Why would I ever use these with the DLC, especially when the difficulty has been ramped up for the higher levels.

Haven't even downloaded it yet, tbh. I've been sick, though.

From what I've heard, I doubt this dlc is going to change my mind much, sadly.

So, three story missions, which you can only replay two of for some reason, a strike, a raid, and some new guns/armour.

The story missions are dead easy, unless you crank the difficulty up to 30, which obviously puts it out of range of my 28 to do without too much effort. Nothing interesting, very anti-climatic. Obviously intended to lead you into the strike and raid.

The strike is, honestly, one of the best in terms of design. Just the way you encounter Omnigul who then retreats to the next couple of sections is good.
However, other than that it's pretty stock standard, rinse-and-repeat gameplay with the same boring "spawn more adds when health reaches x" stuff. The fights prior to the boss are easy and boring.
Omnigul at least adds the factor of a shield to the matter, but by now everyone knows how to deal with those. The room is a nice change, being tight and varied, but the strategy is pretty simplistic. Giant safer zone = kill adds. Then move in to take down the boss. Repeat until dead.

I would have liked to see something more dynamic - changing or multiple shield types on the boss, for example.

And she's too stationary. No threat while you deal with the adds, and mostly just there to wail on when required.

Haven't done the raid yet, but it sounds like more of the same, overall. Not necessarily a bad thing...

But here's the problem: content. This was, at retail, a third of the price of the whole game. I would rage if I had paid that. Free with my copy of the original? Ok. But for that kind of money? Fuck off.

It barely adds three hours of content if you're playing it slow, raid not included.

It adds no new mechanics. Nothing exciting to do. New weapons are basically worse than the old ones, but maybe a higher attack value. Wooo.

In what is basically now an entirely loot-driven environment, you really need to provide desirable items. Let's face it, other than the gunplay, no one is playing this except for the loot.

I really think Bungie has failed here. Again. It just hasn't added enough content to keep people exploring, playing, looting. This needed you be three times the size to really get people back into it. And that's given the base game also needed to be a lot bigger and more fluid/varied content.

It's not the game they wanted to make, I'm sure of that.
