Catching up on The Dark Below and House of Wolves stuff before busting into TTK proper...TDB is easy as shit at lvl38 with the armor I have....but I gotta say I'm more impressed with House Of Wolves as they throw wave after wave of enemy at me, so while I can take them out there tend to be so many of them that I sometimes get overwhelmed. Good stuff.

Good to hear TTK stuff is good so far Silencer...I'll probably get a shot at it this weekend.

As someone who got burnt out on this game really quickly, is it worth getting into a year later? 60 dollars is a lot to drop to get the 2 DLCs and the expansion, but I've heard some good things.

If you bought the physical game, you can turn it into gamestop for 20$, then pay that and 40 for everything.

But it depends on why you got burnt out. I got bored after VOG and quit until just a bit ago, and I'm having fun so far. It feels a lot better, but we'll have to see how long all these quests and stuff last.

Also, we got a hint of the next expansion. In one of the missions you have to turn off a Communication from a Cabal ship, and it turns out you are able to decipher its header (only), and it was a message directly to

Do some missions for dead orbit (although it starts at one of the vanguard peeps) and you get a black ghost shell that goes so very very well with it. "Dread Explorer Shell"

The Shader I'm talking about is called 'The Old Guard'. That's right. Dancer and the Emperor and Laseen and Obdigore. YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT MY HISTORIES.

Hmmm, where did you guys get that one? I've not seen it. I've got one that's black and dark grey, but it has a few small red highlights too...maybe it is the one I've got and I'm just not looking carefully enough at it.

RE next DLC - wouldn't surprise me if it was Cabal, they're the only ones not to have been a main focus as yet.

Plus a black sparrow with purple rocket boosters. Looks good. From Tour.

Oh, I got the new sparrow...so I guess my shader is the year one shader and I just didn't notice the colours properly.

Sigh, can't do Gunsmith stuff now either as that's locked to level 38+

As a UK citizen, I'd have to pay £70, which is getting close to twice what Americans pay. And to buy TTK separately (£40, the price of a regular game, not an expansion), I'd have to buy DB and HoW also - so £70 any which way you cut it.

But what I really object to is being locked out of things which were previously available in the original purchase. That's shitty.

Nathan Fillion is always awesome, and more Cayde is a great way to make this game better. (So is more cutscenes, mind.)

I'm currently torn. The race to be raid-competitive and generally a high level is pitted against my desire to find the secrets and get the special stuff without resorting to internet help. I don't want to leave the Raid to the end of the Year again, and I kinda want to bust it out ASAP. But I also want to do EVERYTHING, and I want to discover the cool stuff accidentally/on my own. But limited time to play already means I'm miles behind in Light level, and I *know* I'm doing this the most efficient way. :S

Now I do, lol. Though I see you've got one too and it's better than mine. :(

Also got a quest from Banshee, think it leads to an Exotic. Unfortunately, I think it leads to an Exotic fusion rifle, and I don't like those. :)

Well I have beaten TTK. The Black Garden was harder imo. I ll get into some Strikes soon. I'm a bit sad.

You see what I mean about the most disappointing parts, right? XD

The thing is, they keep making it like you're expected to play the Raid as part of the story. That's fine, except you can't play the raid without 6 people, so it's not exactly fair to people who don't have a huge friends list. And Crota's End got almost zero story explanation, despite it clearly being the canonical end to the Dark Below. Skolas inexplicably became near-godlike in his power as soon as we dropped him in the Prison, despite being a easy capture in the story. And now Oryx goes down like a little bitch to one Guardian with mid-tier gear, but will no doubt still be a challenging fight for the first thousand or so runs through King's Fall. It makes no sense. (Though, at least Crota and Oryx have some reason to be more powerful, unlike Skolas who does not.)

If they actually took their time to craft a proper story arc, with a sensible level progression that, *gasp*, scaled the later fights to your level to keep them challenging, and either made the final story mission clearly lead into the Raid without you, you know, kicking the ass of the boss character like it was nothing (or worse, have the "boss" be a giant blob that can neither attack nor defend itself - or a giant crystal that has the same passivity), and be a bit longer than something I can finish in 3 hours...they might have something. Never mind that we just kill everything in game universe in the first year. Black Garden? Dead. Time's Conflux? Dead. Crota? Dead. Skolas? Dead. Oryx? Dead. Which basically makes the Hive defeated.
Spoiler

So after we deal with the Cabal Emperor in the next Raid, I'm assuming, there will be no viable threat left in our system. Our Guardians will have successfully completed a quadruple genocide against multiple alien species via only a handful of vectors, and Bungie will be in a corner, story-wise. Either they have to ass-pull new species that are more powerful, ret-con the hierarchy of existing factions to give inexplicably more powerful bosses a new chance to be killed, or have the Darkness show up and be AMAZING to fight and a viable threat. Guess which one I'm NOT betting on? XD

But seriously. Whatever happened to the story in this game after Staten left Bungie and (rumour has it) 4 months prior to launch, it was a huge mistake.

So, I know that you fancy-dan la di da Taken King-owners won't care (the old, 'well, it doesn't affect me' mentality) <--- (only teasing)

BUT, here is a list (taken from a Reddit post, with some of my own comments added in) of the things which were previously available to all, and have now been gated off. I'm not talking about new things - not new missions, strikes, locations, etc, but old things, which were available, but are now restricted (didn't hear anything about that in the build up to TTK's release, now did we?)

- Daily, Weekly heroic and nightfall missions are all gated off. No more heroic, no more nightfall for non-TTK players.

- All Vendor gear is now locked, old vendor gear is gone completely and I'd assume unobtainable. The only gear that you can buy is from your vanguard mentor- uncommons with few perks and only some with 170 defense ratings. Basically, to all intents and purposes, you can't use vendors any more. BUT that doesn't matter anyway, because....

- There is no way whatsoever to earn Legendary Marks. This one I find downright shocking. You take away two currencies, and replace them with...nothing.

- The vanguard legacy playlist is a shadow of what the old vanguard strike playlists were, providing paltry rewards and seemingly no legendary gear- compared to what you could do two weeks ago.

- All "kill objective" missions while patrolling lead to Taken, who you are unable to kill due to the high level difference. This effectively renders them unbeatable unless you have a fire team member who owns the expansion.

- Crucible now only lets you select between random 3v3 or 6v6 match types, which is paltry compared, again, to what you could do two weeks ago. This also leads to loads of people dropping out the moment they see that the mode they wanted to play hasn't come up.

- Level select on missions is gone, you can only do the mission on the default difficulty- this devalues content even as there are legacy quests being re implemented to give gear with 2.0.

- In terms of those who've purchased The Dark Below and House of Wolves previously, Eris bounties and wolf packs have gone, leaving no way to level up those faction reps (aside from the most grindiest of grindy ways). In the case of TDB, that's about half the content wiped.

- Because of the jump in weapon power, there is little reason/end reward now to do the Vault of Glass, Crota's End, or the Prison of Elders - arguably the previously most-fun parts of the game have been hobbled.

https://www.reddit.c...t_and_what_its/

http://www.kotaku.co...-upgrade-behind

This is not a bash on TTK itself, which does look great from what I've seen. And I have been seriously tempted to get it (especially now that I've managed to find it for £40). But I also don't want to purchase it purely because I don't want to condone this kind of business practice. I'd feel complicit in it, and which, if not enough people protest against it, will only mean that, when Destiny 2 or Destiny Year 3 or whatever comes out, the very same thing will happen to this newest incarnation.

This is not like a developer/publisher shutting off part of its game's content (like the servers for an online play component being shut down, for example). All the things above (aside from the TBD/HoW stuff) STILL EXIST, can still be played, but they have been gated off from those original purchasers who have not gone on to purchase TTK.

It's kind of sucks that a lot of that is unavailable....but the nightfalls and heroics were always top cap level events...that top cap level has just moved with the game.

Some of the other stuff like the PVP stuff is really cruddy.

They should not have taken away some of that.

I got kind of screwed in that I could not get TTK without owning the 2 previous expansions, so I basically had to spend $90 again (including taxes) to get all three expansions together.

Bungie is running a business, and I get that....but some of their decisions have been pretty rank.
