Silencer is right, better to try now and fail than hold them. Though I would recommend not leveling up the cryptarch any more until the patch goes through. I went 0-4 yesterday on purples (2 from leveling the guy) so a change is certainly merited.

The Crucible finally opened up to me (without a PS Plus acct.) so I might get in there soon. I'm almost Lvl 20 so after that I'll dive in

I wouldn't worry about your level for the Crucible - it's great for earning XP anyway, and unless you're playing the Iron Banner, level advantages are always disabled.

A question for you
At first I thought it was quite clever how when you found a weapon or piece of armour you liked and started using it you could level it up to be even better. Switch out scopes for the one you like, increase damage, improve armour and light rating etc. However now I face the problem of picking up two legendary helmets, the one is theoretically better than the one I have been using, however I have levelled it up a fair bit and so its current armour and more importantly light level is superior. Why would I switch, how can I switch. Especially when light determines my lvl which is far more important than any other consideration. Must I power down in the short term to be more powerfull in the long?
This system that I thought was so clever is now actually seeming quite silly. Unless I am missing something?

If the endpoint for your helmet is more powerful, then you want to start using that one, at least in areas where you aren't sacrificing light levels you need.
For instance, if you are 28 in a 28 raid, and you pick up a new piece of gear that is better than your helmet, but will downgrade you to 27 until you level it up, you don't want to switch out right away.
However, when you turn in bounties or do PVP or Tiger Strikes (shit where changing you light level between 28 and 27 doesn't matter) you want to equip that 'will be better' item to level it up.

Ive been playing for a while on PS4. Level 25 atm. Kept getting Legendarys for Titan class and im a warlock. Got a legendary sniper rifle tho. I have got my vanguard rank up so I have purchased a few armour items.
You're prob gonna hate me but I did get a Exotic weapon as a reward on a strike. Its a shotgun and for some reason its a primary weapon.
Its starting to get pretty repetitivegoing on strikes. I get wasted in the crucible so thats no fun. Plus I missed the farming cave, didnt find out until after the patch.

Buyers remorse is huge in this game. I was stuck on 25 so I wasted 65 Vmarks on legendary gloves to push me over the edge, suddenly I hear the voice of Xur and walk over and I could have bought much better exotic gloves instead. Now its too late! Though my goal in life is to one day buy an exotic primary weapon
