People just like using the Spoiler tag regardless, Egwene. I think it might just be a pet peeve of yours to avoid them (here or on the wiki). Everyone else finds mountains of joy in clicking that little button and getting a reveal, or leaving little surprises for other people. In fact I'd say for some of us -- not naming names -- it's the best thing we get to do all day. Who could willingly deny someone that pleasure?

It may be fun for some, but I am working all hours and it's difficult to squeeze time to indulge in posting, editing etc. as it is. To then be wasting it by having to keep going back to un-clicking is not much fun at this end... Totally happy with anyone (including me) using the Spoiler tags where appropriate but this board really isn't it - otherwise you don't have a single place on the entire forum where people can discuss without having to fear the spoiler police.

I doubt it's Kilava Gruntle meets in his dream(s) in TtH. For one, the panther in TtH does not talk like Kilava at all and seems to be as surprised to meet him as he is to meet her. She asks 'Do all beasts know riders, then?' Then, we've got two different places: the world/time they are in during the dream sequence, which is possibly the distant past, as we have mentions of K'Chain, FA, Jaghut, TTT coexisting, as well as possibly some Eres running around teh jungle. Then we have the world/place the lady whose soul is riding the panther is from, which is possibly the distant future, as there's the mention of the city of New Morn. There's also the fact that she does not seem to know who or what Hood is, which is both possible when she's either form the past or from the future, but KIlava would definitely know Hood, and would not have to ask who that is; she'd just not comment on that at all. The panther lady tells Gruntle she comes to this jungle every night and her soul rides the panther, but seems to have thought to be unique in that.

IF Kilava is involved, it may be possible that the two events (Kilava's sendings and Gruntle's time travelling dreams) intertwined and out came the confusion in Gruntle's mind about who is who, what with two panther ladies appearing in his dreams. Trake may have been summoned by the group of Eres Gruntle meets in the jungle, through some weird time travel dream thing, but since they summoned the idea of Trake, not Trake himself, Gruntle may have ended up there, thinking it was Trake who sent him these dreams to taunt him. The passage is roughly at page 465 and following in the TtH HC, around that mark anyway, and when one reads carefully there are many layers of meaning that are difficult to prise apart, but everything points to this particular pather not being Kilava.

Still, I think it's possible that KIlava was indeed sending Gruntle something, but went about it too subtly and the two things got mixed up in his mind (she sent him warnings of a lethal fight bound to happen, he's unknowingly infatuated with the idea of the pantehr lady, Kilava is a panther lady, and voilá, we have two panther ladies becoming one). He does mention dreams of fighting a panther in a cave in tCG to Kilava, but she says she did not send him dreams, just 'warnings'. Eh, again, I think two or more things got mixed up here: prayers/summonings towards Trake and summonings/warnings towards Gruntle, but everything ended up with Gruntle because he is the closest Trake has to a physical manifestation and as such to a focal point that can be used to aim stuff towards.

Eh, again, just some musings from me on that. Could be totally wrong.

Yeah, most of the time I'm just doing it to be respectful in case someone else stumbles across it accidentally, and usually its only if it a big deal one, which I don't think this particular one is, but hell, WTF. It ain't hurtin nuffin.
Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

I suspect that particular title may have to do with events prior to Shorn's death, but also speculate that since Shorn was released from a barrow by Hood to be an undead dragon in the fight against chaos, the title given by the Imass could reder to that.

The first is more likely to me, particularly with the Andii/Liosan/Edur prequels coming along in Erikson's head at this time.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

There is maybe further evidence for Gruntle being confused in that section at the beginning of tCG.

(Mappo) Your mistress lies dying?

(Gruntle) Dying? Maybe. I see her, and rage fills my eyes in a flood of crimson. Gored, raped, and someone will pay for that. Someone will pay.

Mappo was silent. Raped?

Mappo's reaction could translate into him questioning whether Gruntle knows what he is on about. Given how highly Stonny's rape featured in Gruntle's thoughts and motivations at the time, I wonder if we are meant to see him now blurring vision with reality as a result of that trauma.

Oh, that's a good find, didn't think of that one. Yes, I agree that it's further indication that Gruntle may be confusing things. I'd give rep, but I'm out of positive rep for today.

I will have to keep on pondering the panther, I guess... Thanks for all your thoughts on the subject. If you come across anything else, do keep on posting...

Next question...

Does anyone remember any titles other than 'High Marshal' for the Mott irregulars?

Question 5: Can you help me with some details for the Tiste Edur Ship that Shurq Elalle comes across in chapter three of Reaper's Gale? Was it attacked by the Malazan's and if so, do we get that point of view anywhere from their angle? Also... the amphora are bearing what must be Coltaine's image... what is known about where the blood came from? Was it from the Chain of Dogs? Any bits of info gratefully received :-)

I don't remember much details, but I think the most you hear from the Malazans is that one or two of them vaguely recall it, possibly in reference to where they got some info about the Edur/Lether. The amphora I imagine are just loot taken by the fleet when raiding 7C.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Iirc, the ship had been attacked by the Silanda and Smiles tortured an Edur for information. Shurq found the ship but we got the info from the squad later.
Agree with Drek re the amphora.

Thanks Abyss and D'rek, I thought I remembered there being another reference to the ship... now for a kindle and finding that recollection...

When I first read that passage, I thought that maybe the blood was from the Sepik population... but that didn't make sense given the signs on the amphora. Pretty gruesome cargo, that's for sure!
