Hey, sorry guys! Feels like I haven't been on the Eclipse thread for weeks. I'll see if I can work out what to do next.

So with my incredible sleuthing skills (and finally access to a computer and the secret mod database) I think I have found the name, address and phone number of Gnaw... god the internet is a scary place. Anyway if someone wants to try and get it touch with him and find out if he's alright, send me a PM. I'd do it myself, but my communication access here is somewhat limited.

Just seen this - fantastic work IH! I'm away on a research trip at the moment, otherwise I'd give it a go. And I see twelve's already volunteered, good man.

As I was slammed with Work last night I gave Vengy the phone number as he said he would call him later in his evening while I was still at work. Not sure if he has or not. If he dropped the ball I'll give him a ring a little later today.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

And I'm totally hosed this round. I've never seen phase shields get purchased before the last round for anything other than tech points before and now two have been bought in round 4 with the intention of being used against me of all people!!!!! What was my latest orders? I think it was to put two plasma missiles on my starbases. I think I'm going to keep those orders as is.

Yes replace hulls with plasma missiles :p

Khell is holidaying in Germany but is back Saturday so the pace will pick back up then.

It is Morgoth's go and then yours.

I am glad you had a good time, was it a family wedding? I have been to 1 Jewish wedding, I had the greatest luck to be invited by the wife's boss. I can honestly say it was the best wedding ever. Except for mine of course

Yes it was a family wedding and it was a Jewish wedding and I have to say it was the best wedding party I've ever been too. Over three hundred guests and about 280 of them were just from the brides side as most of the grooms family lives in the States so only three of us were able to participate. Pulled a white night as the Jewish like to call an all-nighter. I never seen my dad dance for as much or as long as he did. Surprised me. One of my brother's Ukranian friends tried to get us totally plowed. If I let him get me just one more drink he would have succeeded too. I was at the tipping point for sure. Needless to say I'm glad we postponed the Dead Sea trip until two days after the wedding. I don't think any of us were in any condition to spend 2 hours in the car and deal with the heat.

Was it a free bar as well? That amazed me, we had to pay for nothing at the wedding. Did you go the ceremony as well? See them all dancing and having fun in the synagogue before it took place? The dancing is also non stop, you need a lot of energy to do it, and the way they dance in separate groups, females in one and men in the other. The food was delicious. I bet it was all heightened being in Israel itself. I wish I could go to one there. Are you Jewish? Did you have a Jewish Wedding?

How was meeting Tapper? What did you do?

It was a free bar for everyone but my brother that is. I went with him to pick up all the hard alchohol from the liquor store. The venue provided the beer and wine but that too was on my brothers bill. I think I heard him say the total costs for both weddings (US and Israel) was in the 40,000 dollar range. Crazy!!!! It sounds like you went to a more Orthodox Jewish wedding where they keep the Men and Woman seperated. Not so with the one I atteneded. I was amazed that they had a pre ceromony appetizers and drinks and socializing then they all gathered for the service. Then everone went to the reception hall where the bride and groom went to do the meet and greet and dancing with the guest while a pre main course was served. Followed by more dancing and drinking and then finally the main course arrived followed by even more drinking and dancing. And the food there is beyond great. I'm surprised I didn't come back gaining more than the pound I did gain. It probably helped that the food was a lot more healthy than I'm accostomed to. As for being Jewish that is the funny part. We, my siblings and I, were all raised Roman Catholic and for by brothers parents to be okay with the wedding he had to "convert" to Judaisim. Needless to say my mother handled that better than I expected. My brother and his wife aren't super religious so they just went though the formality of the conversion just to appease her parents.

The vist with Tapper started out as a bit of an adventure. Seems that he didn't read my itinerary very closly as he went to meet me at 9 in the morning on the 8th even before I even got on the airplane to head to the Netherlands. He saw that I left on the 8th and arrived in the morning not realizing that I'm 9 hours behind him and it's roughly an 11 hour flight. Then when I did arrive I couldn't get the free wifi in either the airport or the central station to work. Finally I had to breakdown and send him a text message with no international plan in place. I still don't know what my visit cost me just in the phone bill alone yet. So by the time we connected and met up it was midday. By that time we were starved and hit a nice tapas restaurant, I think called Mercat a few blocks from the central station. Then we ended up wandering the canal district, BSing and occasionally showing me some of the sites. We went by the presidental palace and a number of administration buildings. Vengy was highly disappointed that I didn't even at least walk through the red light district even if it was in the middle of the day. Frankly I don't think I needed that cultural experience. The weather was absolutely gourgous. From what Sander told me I lucked out as it's usually much colder and wetter but I'll take it. Then to top the night off we stopped at a pub and had some fries with mayo and some beer. All very delious. By then they had to go to Sander's sisters house for a family dinner and I needed to head back to the airport. It's a good thing I gave myself plenty of time. The dicks at the terminal to fly to Israel asked a bunch of stupid questions and then were mad that I didn't answer them to their satifaction. I eneded up with "special treatment" because of that. It didn't cause me to miss the flight but I was more than a little annyoed by the expericence.

All in all I'd do the trip again in a heartbeat. Sander and Karolina (SP) were great hosts as well as my brother's in-laws where I stayed in Israel. Even the 8-10 hour time changes I handled better than I expected. I just wish I could make it to Chicago this July for the meet up but it's not in the cards for me.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

This is the same as the one I went to except for location. We started off in a synagogue in Liverpool. (We actually went to the wrong building at first, we went to a Greek wedding but realised our mistake, as we knew no one and none of them were wearing skullcaps). We arrived at the right place and took a seat on the bride's side (I think). As we were waiting for her to arrive and it to start they were all in a back room, dancing, and possibly having a drink or something (I cannot remember what I was told they did), they had a live band playing at the time, good proper Jewish music, they came in clapping and boisterous . Then they had the ceremony. Afterwards we all traveled to the venue. When we arrived we were given drinks and canopes and mingled with everyone. Then the meal started, which was dancing, then starter, then dancing, then main, then dancing then dessert whilst they had live music and entertainment going on. What i meant by the separate groups, the men surrounded the groom and lifted him in a chair, and the women did the same with the bride and they did other dances in a circle around them both as well. Great day, great memory!!

I have been to Amsterdam 2 or 3 times. I cannot believe you did not visit a cafe, or even see the red light district. It's unreal, I have never seen anything like that anywhere else in the world. Hong Kong came close when I walked into a bar and there were 3 or 4 naked women dancing, but to see them in the windows like fashion mannequins is something bizarre and a must see, but a must see that wears off.

I am happy you had a good time. What went on in the airport?

Jet Lag was hitting me hard core while I was waiting to go through the screening process so I was probably not in the best mood to begin with but when they were ready for boarding I was in line to be screened. First they asked to show me my boarding pass from Portland to Amsterdam because it had my luggage tag on it. As this is the first trip I've every checked luggage I always just do carry on I of course had no idea what they were even talking about and since it was a boarding pass for the last leg that was already said and done I thought I had thrown it away as I didn't need it anymore. Since I couldn't provide something I felt I didn't even need anymore they stopped the screening process and set me off to the side. I'm not sure what would have happened if I didn't finally find it.

Once I found it they continued on with the screening. Then they started asking for the purpose of my visit. Okay that's somehting I can answer. I said it was for my brother's wedding. They then asked for the invitation. I didn't have one. Even if I did receive an invitation I wouldn't have brought it with me on the flight. They then asked "what did he just give you a verbal invite?" I answered yes and they thought that was odd. They then asked where I was staying and I said my brother's in-laws. They asked where do they live and being the first time there I had no clue. They then asked how are you going to get there. I told them my brother was picking me up. At this point I'm getting very annoyed with the 20 questions routine. Then the "lady" (insert colourful derogitory term of your choice) had the audacity to ask me why I was nervous. I told her I wasn't nervous but I should have also told her she was pissing me off with her stupid questions and I'm exhausted from traveling all day and my body was jacked up from the time difference.

At that point they asked me to sit off to the side. After a while I cooled off and had to laugh at how totally ridiculous the whole process was. After a while I got a "special" screening with the metal detector, pat down check and my carry on luggage was rifled through right in front of me with a few occasional questions about the contents. Then the guys doing the screenings told me that maybe next time I would be more prepared and that you are going to Isreal and that when I got there I would understand. Well I saw a good chunk of the State of Isreal and I still have no idea what the guy was talking about. I actually saw more armed securtiy in the Amsterdam airport than I did anywhere else in Isreal. There were a few places I had to go through a metal detector in Isreal to get in some shopping centers but I didn't see the security guards packing assault rifles. I also saw soldier waiting at bus stops packing but you could tell they weren't on duty when I saw them. I felt completely and totally safe the whole visit. There were a few times I went out late at night and I saw women traveling alone without a care in the world.

I also thought going through customs coming back in the States was way over the top. We have to go through screening to get to the airport. Then again when we switched planes in Amsterdamn and it seemed like twice more when I got back to Seattle and we never left an airport or airplane the whole time. Seems like a complete and total waste of time. And what is the point of scanning your passport to get this little print out that you have to go and show to a security officer when we already showed our passports to a different security officers? There seems to be a lot of repetition for no good reason. I guess I don't fly enough and if I didn't maybe it would make sense. I don't know.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.
