Having played this game a few times now, I'd argue that the best and necessary play against the warlike races is to deny them a single point access to their core systems. It opens me for attack sure, but the alternative is an unassailable war machine exploding out from the Galactic Core.

Just wondering, did we decide to do the turn order variant? 2nd player to pass picks rotation?

I think it's part of the expansion, but I don't remember if we planned on including it anyway.

We didn't decide on this. I was just going to roll with whomever passed first goes first and the turn order is clockwise. Is this the normal way of doing things? I know we created something with the expansion but I don't know which is the better option in this instance.

I prefer the expansion rules of second pass deciding direction. It is a good rule that's easy to implement.
