No, not in the least.
I just missed Queensryche going from "he took her on the altar like a sacrifice" and "reach deep into your hearts and your pocketbooks" to "GOD SAVEEEEEEEEEDDDD MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE On a saturday nigggggghhhhttt"
I didnt even notice the porn comment. And now I AM confused. And admonishing. Christians are fat, delusional inbreeders. I cant see how you'd want to see them in a porno. But if that's what does it for you... pursue your happiness to your heart's content.
Myself? I'd much prefer some cute little jewish girls.

Ash - it was a good friend of mine, another big DT fan, and she said he also played in a Christian band. And by that I mean a band who plays Christian music as opposed to a band who just plays, but has Christian members.

*shrug* agreed. Apparently, Mike Portnoy is a Christian... Anyone know if this is true? Asheroth?quote:Originally posted by Choronzon:
I don't care for most "Christian rock", but there are plenty of people who make good rock/pop music who are Christians (e.g. Sam Phillips, Pedro the Lion, 16 Horsepower). The music of most self-proclaimed "Christian rockers" is usually fairly mediocre, in my opinion.

Yes, Ash is a Christian rocker
Yeah, like Joe said, Blindside are reasonably awesome. As are Demon Hunter. I originally got into the Christian metal/rock scene because my youth group insisted on repeatedly playing Five Iron Frenzy and Relient K *shudder* and I needed something different. By the way, Christian rock is fine, but never touch Christian punk or ska - not because it's evil, but because it is some of the worst music you can find in both the religious and secular world.
Listen to something by Underoath if you looking to move into the metal side of things - although I think they're more hardcore/screamo now - ah, the endless classifying of genres that is nectar to a metalhead...
*waits for Gothos or someone to laugh at him for calling himself a metalhead*

Well, tell me the name of this band and show me a website or something and I'll believe you. Until then, it doesn't seem very likely to me. Although it would be awesome if it were true.

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Coming from the swedish bible belt, I've heard quite many local christian rock bands. Some of them were actually good, but not if they are too obvious. "Jesus loves you, yeah, yeah" aint exactly brilliant lyrics

Hehe...probably the most 'Christian' song I ever liked was Coldplay's 'God put a smile upon your face'- and even with that I struggled to put my musical tasted before my atheist sensibilities.

Presumably you're talking about the same kind of ska that I'm thinking of in which case I can't think of any music less suited for a Christian makeover. All the traditional ska I've heard from back in Jamaica consists, lyrically at least, of pure filth and the audience it was made for likes it that way. Christianisation (as it were) would remove a large part of the heart of the genre IMO.
I'm speaking as someone who doesn't have much time for metal, the majority of it being at, IMO, least as self indulgent, and there as lacking in musical interest, as prog rock. It's interesting that Christian rock is posited on the basis that music is made for everyone, because that's very obviously not so. I very much doubt that any of you metalheads are in mind when people such as Squarepusher or Photek or Ninja Tunes are going about their business.

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. I dunno, Noggintoboggan are good for a laugh... But Relient K are just not good... Blindside do rule, and Silence is one of my favourite all time albums!! And good to see other Christians on this forum, Ash, I currently need backup in This Thread. PS did I mention Demon Hunter? They are also amazing!quote:Originally posted by Asheroth:

Will look out for them in the summer. Same with Stryper, Joe, Thanks.quote:Listen to something by Underoath if you looking to move into the metal side of things - although I think they're more hardcore/screamo now - ah, the endless classifying of genres that is nectar to a metalhead...
Well I do know that, but I have defined my music range to rock and mainly metal, so a lot of the stuff I have is about hate. A lot of the stuff which isn't about it nowadays is just crap.quote:Originally Posted by Yellow:

I do like that analogy, but I think you are wrong. I made a CD of Christian music for a non-Christian friend and he really liked it. I mean, Most people will listen to the music first and the lyrics second. If a metal head were to hear someone like Demon Hunter, they could really get into them. Demon Hunter don't necessarily do the whole "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Yeah Yeah Yeah" kinda lyrics but they aren't all about the other kind of stuff that the bands in that genre are about. It is something different.quote:The thing about putting a lot of christian themes in your music must be quite crippling to bands if all they want is to play music, not necessarily promote christianity or whatever.
It's like a stand-up comedian once said... if you go to a party and there's a couple of midgets there, then in your mind it's a midget party, and there's no coming back from that
He can try... He can try... *looks around menacingly*quote:aahahahahahahah! no point to this discussion now. the panzer pope will abolish all rock n' roll. now be a good christian and go back to boybands and the rest of the crap.
Amen to that, brother! (Or, sort of...)quote:Originally Posted by Bottle:
