the funny thing about christian music is that after the band gets big on their christian label they almost invariabley split off for a more lucrative marketer.
Christian labels pandering to the masses = crappier selection on a tighter budget.

Surprisingly, I love Christian Rock even though I am not a Christian. I even tune into the Christian song channel when driving to work, so much so some people think I am Christian.
Sometimes I think Christian rock should be called "Spiritual rock". The songs are essentially talking about relationship of man with God, about how to live life, which is essentially what at its core spirituality is all about!

Hmm...Then is Marilyn Manson Christian rock? There's a crucifix scene in one of his videos or album covers.

Eh? I've seen no evidence to prove that, or indeed suggest it in any way, shape or form. Where did you get that from?

Personally I find the idea of christian rock a bit strange. Like Fool, I've only heard a bit, and didn't really like it.
But I don't understand why bands would do that to themselves - purposefully pigeonhole their own music. I mean, are all their songs about christian issues? How boring would that be? Surely at some point they would compromise either their music or their message just to satisfy the other.
Maybe that's why there aren't any mainstream christian bands (although I suspect people wouldn't like being preached to either - want to spread the word of god? Be a priest - there's a time and a place for that ****
)
Nothing morally wrong with it though, as far as I can see.

but seriously, some of you christians on this board (most particularly you simeon; seems like you're desperate to justify your religion) needs to lighten up a bit. take some wisdom from mr. macho himself, johnny cash, who said "i'm not a christian artist, i'm just an artist who happens to be christian."

Christian rock is fine by me, theres quite a few good christian bands that i like. I suggest that you check out a swedish band called Blindeside, their record " Silence " is outstanding. For classic Christian metal check out Stryper " Soldiers under command " if you haven't heard them.

Is Christian Music an American thing, because as a Brit I can't name a single band, or remember hearing a song by a Christian Band.

Fair enough... you know though Tiste, there are lots of bands (and genres of music) out there that don't sing about hate - not just the christian ones
The thing about putting a lot of christian themes in your music must be quite crippling to bands if all they want is to play music, not necessarily promote christianity or whatever.
It's like a stand-up comedian once said... if you go to a party and there's a couple of midgets there, then in your mind it's a midget party, and there's no coming back from that...

Hey I agree with that. I think there is a place for it - to tell you the truth out of my favourite bands only Blindside and Demon hunter are Christian, or bands who are Christian members. Dream Theater, Queen, Mars Volta, Muse, Led Zep etc. are all up there, and I have no problem with them!
