Wow. I thought this thread had died a death a long long time ago.
My music has changed now. Most Christian rock sucks pretty badly. With one major exception - Becoming the Archetype are one of my favourite bands, up there with the likes of Opeth...
The rest? Well I have hardly listened to them for ages...

Lol I hadn't heard of Becoming the Archetype in a long time. I saw them two or three years ago, and they were awful. There's actually a decent number of hardcore bands on like Solid State records (or at least there used to be, it's been a while) who are Christians and who are good. Underoath is one... though they've pretty much sold out (if you heard their first 2 records you wouldn't believe the difference.) Beloved is good... also Showbread. The Showdown (first time I heard them was live, and they were complete rednecks so it was really funny.) I listen to more hardcore than metal, but as long as the lyrics aren't preachy it doesn't bother me that they're Christian.

Rofl! It's ok to have Christian porn if the actors get married before the sex scenes. Guess you could always fast forward through that part.

I have a buddy who plays bass in a Christian rock band. He's hard-core in Jesus and all that. I'm very much not. But as long we don't talk about such stuff, we're totally cool with each other.

His band's stuff ain't actually too bad either, though the lyrical content is rather silly to me.

So on a whim today, I decided to give a listen to the local Christian rock station. Shine FM as it is called.

Great googa wooga, there was some seriously bad music being played. I swear if I never hear a young male voice plaintively shrieking "Jeeeesssssus!", it'll be too soon.

Anyone ever see the brilliant South Park episode where Cartman forms a Christian rock band? Breaks me up every time I see it.

Christian metal is not wrong but if it tends to only focus on darkness i wouldn't excessively consume their music so to speak. Is Christian music when u glorify god in music? Mainly yes and its a shame when christian bands doesnt dare to stand up for their faith. As a Progressive White Metal guitarplayer/singer I would say that standing up for my faith is the most important thing for me.

I see religion and music as two separate things, and they shouldn't mix. Styles of music do not reflect morality or anything like that, so anyone who thinks heavy metal is wrong is just stupid, ignorant, or any mixture.

Styles of music isn't the point, its what u do with it. For instance why Christians criticise Christian metal is that much in that style glorify Satan, theistic Satanism tend to form itself in metal bans for some reason. So many christians think of the dark and "destructive" music when hearing metal in general. But they focus on the style not the music.

By the way u can find much in the bible that points to "harps ,cymbals and stringed instruments" being played loudly :) (Psalms 150)

Neal Morse is one of the great progressive componers/musicians of our time, check out his work "Sola Scriptura" and "One" Tiste Simeon.

Christian metal aint too bad. See the bands Awaiting The End and Still Remains(early stuff) lyrics arent simply "jesus, I love you" they are thought provoking and fairly meaningful.
“People have wanted to narrate since first we banged rocks together & wondered about fire. There’ll be tellings as long as there are any of us here, until the stars disappear one by one like turned-out lights.”

So you must love MCR then, right? :)

Some songs are okay, like Creed had some good music back in the day. I think Christian music gets kind of a bad rap because of the commercials you see for the worship music on t.v. A lot of the classic Classical music is really good and it was "christiany" in origins.

As for the whole you won't find a lot of Christians here. Maybe, but I bet there are a few, mostly because fantasy tends to have an awful lot of witchcraft and messiahnic people.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

The music you listen to would sound very different if everyone had felt that way up to about AD 1500.

I don't listen to wery much christian music because I often find the music quite banal and straigth out bad. But there are some decent bands out there. I like Switchfoot a lot.

But mostly I just listen to secular music.

Besides being impressed with the thread necro, I find the OPs username hilarious. In Danish it's a not very nice term for a woman who's a tease and doesn't put out. Direct translation is something aching to "sneaky c*nt".

Never understood the entire Christian Rock thing. It's music. It has lyrics (this can be disputed :-). It has the same good/bad distribution as other music, I think. So most of it sucks.

I appreciate your optimistic pessimism. I think the reason it appears so much worse as a genre, is that while most conventional rock bands, metal bands, and indie bands that suck gigantic amounts of dick are ridiculed into anonymity or have no following at all, many of these types in the christian rock field actually acquire many listeners by some miracle (pun unintended).
