Im curious how far from the books the series is.

Will seems a bit like rand harem al'thor

Eta - im sorry but if the elfish history is thiusands of years old.
Then.
Safe hold should have been pillaged many times over, and well known if they were able to run there.

The basic plot is the same - the same characters go to the same places for (mostly) the same reasons. But beyond that its a mish-mash - some events, personalities, timings, etc are the same, some are slightly altered, some are very different.

I'd say... more changed than the LotR movies but less changed than the Hobbit movies.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Yeah I don't think I'll bother with the books then.
Finished up.

Also, vagnomes. I can't tear my eyes away from the vagnomes.

I'm not necessarily against any of that on principle, I just think it's gonna suck anyway.

Yeah I'm not against cannibalism, light beer, or animated panda porn in principle, but even so where was I going with this...?

Trailer for Season 2.

Is it me, or does this look better?

That said, the concentration of "This is our world, but apocalyptic" seems even more amped up in this...and I want more of a fantasy vibe.

Still....I enjoyed enough of the first season to be in for at least a bit of Season 2...but it has an uphill battle...

Not a problem. When this show faces an uphill battle, it does the logical thing and digs a ditch. Then jumps into it. :(

Heyooo

But seriously. I actually and thinking that the whole concept of allowing the show to go off and do its own thing and mash up different characters and settings in new ways might help this show be better. Season 1 was pretty beholden to the ELFSTONES structure...which hampered it a bit.

Like, Vampire Diaries actively got better once they abandoned the original book source material.

I dunno. This season could be an even worse trainwreck..but the shift to Spike might indicate a solid change in narrative direction.

Also Malese Jow joined the cast as a regular for s2...this will make me watch anyways, because she's amazing.

Ok, but when episode two includes 22-minutes of dickwarves and vagnomes riding horses on the beach with a Zola Jesu soundtrack, don't say i didn't warn you.

It's hard to tell from a one minute trailer if it's going to be any better. It is moving to Spike, so that could mean the writers are allowed to spread their wings a little and be a bit more edgier. Although Spike doesn't have a track record for original content, so we'll see.

When it was on MTV it was so bad, in a "I've got to watch it, it's so bad" sort of campy vibe kind of way. My trepidation about it moving to Spike is it just may be bad, in a "I'm dropping this pos and not watching any more episodes" kind of way.

I can't decide if I'm going to even try this 2nd season. I loathed S1 because they butchered The Elfstones book material so badly, among other things. This preview hasn't convinced me either way. Introducing the Sword of Shannara almost makes it seem like they are jumping backwards to the 1st book. I can't recall what was said in S1 about the past battle and Wil's (grand)father's role in it. Did they actually reference him defeating the warlock lord with the sword? Is the red/black faced villain supposed to be the warlock lord? If the showrunners disconnect further from the source material, it might actually be easier to take. I'll probably leave it up to my daughter. If she wants to watch it, I may at least try it out.

I think they are very much disconnecting form the source material in terms of plotting and characters...which I think may help all the issues it had. We shall see.

No Poppy Drayton anymore, so no reason to watch it anymore.

Trailer looks shit.
