This is not quite final version either :) (sorry) very close, about 2-3 hours more to do on it.

Mainly background stuffs.

No problem ;)

(Actually I should start again with adding some pictures. I still have one or two folders to do :))

I like the demon bird. Do you plan a picture "demonbird getting kicked by Rake while the nighthunters descent down onto Darujhistan"?

Is that a formal request? because I recall a baby voiced Demon lord in there somewhere...

That might be fun.

Just an idea I got from seeing the demon. But if you like the idea feel free to use it. ;)

I just had a quick reread. Baruk's winged spy got kicked by Serrat or one of her assassins before the attack on the Assassins of the guild. Rake afterwards killed Pearl while Ben and Kalam ran for their lifes. Actually that would be two awesome scenes.

Ah that's the scene I remember, yeah I think that's be cool to attempt. Will give it a shot at some point.
I also talked to Dejan on DA. Think I might try Spinnocks Battle speech scene next, after the Magus.
Something in and around the Shore. That battle needs more love.

Based on these very loose character designs I posted on the 10 minute sketch thread. I thought I would focus in on a duel that has been on my mind for ages. I don't have my sketchbook with me so I can't offer a hig-rez scan. But here what it looks like on Instagram.

I like it, You certainly should try this one again!

Maybe try different angles though? I'd think you'd get a better comp if we were watching the fight from the Right side of the throne-room.

Just a suggestion though.

Just a sketch, playing with ideas for a scene.
EDIT:(LARGELY inspired by PLUGO. credit where credits due, his character sketches are amazing!)

Also can I just say:
Autodesk sketchbook is the free sketch app of the week for me.

I've got flipbook, sketchbookX, tasuki sketches and paper 53. They're all great but right this moment sketchbook gives you best value for no money imho. might upgrade the package once I get a proper stylus.

High praise from the man himself! Thank you.

Rhulad is such a visually interesting concept for a character design. I keep wanting to come back and do a much more completed version (down to what the coins look like) You'll probably beat me to it which will be great to see.

That angle is pretty flat - I wanted to convey Rhulad's awkwardness with the sword as that weapon seems to be the source of the danger rather than the skill. A profound contrast to Bryce Beddict who is all about skill. That also came back to Rhulad having an ill-suited weapon, the basket hilt itself would be limiting if one considers he probably has a vice-like grip on that sword at all times (I've also been wondering if he has that grip at all times, even the most mundane of acts would be both dreadful and somewhat tragic with that sword in such a grip). Conversly pictured Bryce weidling the super precise Taiji Jian, in a very relaxed hand while his other hand is free.
Here's an example of what I imagined a Bryce workout routine might look like - https://youtu.be/9TcgHxKI5ZM
Note the two fingers in the off hand.

All that said, I think you're right, there is certainly room for much more dynamic composition. Rhulad's menace could be increased significantly if he sort of charging towards the viewer while hacking at Bryce.

I don't remember the details in the scene, but do all the coins need to be gold?
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

IIRC - the coins are all gold due to the status of the Sengar family.

I like this,

Oddly I never pictured Bryce fighting in this way. I always thought due to the blonde hair blue eyes the Letharii would have a more western sword fightning style.

I picture the Seguleh and the Untans being more asiatic in their martial style.

It's the main reason I double take when we talk about Rhulads basket hilted sword.

Isn't that a nobleman, western style weapon? I thought the Edur were similar to most Sealskin wearing cultures. Where weapons were concerned I guess forge technology would be advanced, they do descend from the Kharkanas Tiste though. Maybe there's more tech in their culture than I initially thought.

No doubt the Seguleh are busting out some high flying wushu moves - https://youtu.be/hy_3fEaY22I?t=77

For Bryce I just couldn't get the vision of his having a flat flexible sword he could slip into the joints of an opponent's armor. If only I could find the video that came to mind. I've been musing about the various mortal swordsmen throughout the series might make for a thread all its own. I've also been floating that fight scene around in my head, I'll post a revised comp once I have a minute. What's your secret to productivity?

As for Rhulad's Basket hilted sword - It forged by the Withal(?) of the Meckros I don't think i've read much about the culture on those floating cities but it's safe to assume their technology would be on the more advanced side.

I considered Rhulad's sword to be two-handed or hand-and-a-half sword but he only usually used it as one handed due to his strength.

Against an armoured opponent I can imagine Brys half-swording, a western fighting-style just fits him better imho.

Taya and Vorcan. Perhaps I need to workshop the name.

I just realized Taya is the Harley Quinn of the Malazan world.
