I think you have to run it on an honour system, but yeah alliance exiting shenanigans to induce victory for old alliance mates is annoying.
If you want to reduce the chance of morgoth getting VP you need to research artifact key, otherwise he gets 25-30 resources and there is no chance of anyone dislodging him as he has to high tech. Personally I think if you grab artifact link you probably have a decent shot of taking a hex or two from him with ships from drek and 2 dreads from you, he can only build 11 material or so worth of ships right now, with artifact key he can build all of them! Especially considering gnaw has effectively opened another front, so gnaw can possibly reduce his hex count too.

Also you aren't actually doing much worse than tapper at the moment VP wise.

Ouch!!!!!
I look forward to matching wits with you again IH. I promise to do better next time.
God I hope not, you've ruthlessly exploited every miscalculation I've made so far! Anyone else I think I'd have eliminated by now, but you are still a thorn in my side.
And yeah whenever I play eclipse in real life at a certain point at least one or two players will throw everything they have at me to ensure I don't win again. This means I rarely win, but doesn't stop it happening most games.

It's the fact that I'm in last place in points with current players is killing me. I feel like I've embarrassed myself this game by the fact that you have me poised to be eliminated not the fact that I'm still hanging on by a thread. And that reaction with the Dread last round was such an epic fail. I totally should have waited longer before I reacted. I haven't been paying as close attention this game as I should have.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

You are actually ahead of gnaw and drawing with tatts on VP, so you aren't doing too badly. Our alliance has just barely scraped ahead of you on VP

So it's my turn. IH did you suggest to build my ship now so that I can move into my ex homeworld?

The current maps are wrong aren't they, so where do I see the right map and board?

You probably have time to move stuff without drek stopping you, she has to build ships and move them to pin you, so you are probably OK. Researching fusion source or building a ship/ships are both decent moves.
If you are going to commit to attack drek though i guess sooner the better. I dont know which is the preffered target though your ex homeworld or gnaws. I guess we can only take on one with any certainty of victory.

Hah, same for me. Though that's the way of it in every game we play. Somehow I've acquired a reputation for ruthless warmongering in our gaming group.
Makes it all the sweeter the few times I win though.

Yeah, you've said this in like ten of your last dozen posts If it comes down to it, I'm happy to take the Betrayer card at the end to allow D'rek/Tapper to win. But in the meantime, the alliance stays strong
Excuse me, but when I floated that idea a few rounds ago you were one of the people who said it was poor play iirc.

Morgoth, I still am interested in that deal I spoke of earlier. Let me have a couple of hexes for resource gain and I'll stay out of your hair. I'll swap ambassadors once I've got them, so I take the traitor card if I fuck you over. Hell, I'll even let you have Procyon on turn 3 if you feel you can wait that long for the artifact key.
Tatts, the only thing wrong with the map is D'rek's interceptor in Rigel(?) It was killed during retreat and didn't survive.

I screwed up using my cruiser to help pin Twelve's dread I think. Now it's pretty much stuck there. *shrug*

Yeh, I guess the collective ire of the other players is enough in most cases. it is poor form to essentially "stop trying" in any board game. Hard to make a rule against -- it's one of those things that everyone knows when they see it but it's difficult to formalize in words.

If you are fine with Psi Capricorni and Spica I will certainly not resent you taking them. As for Procyon I would like to wait another turn to answer whether I'd be willing to forgo the points of that system. The choices I need to make are far from clear, and right now I'm trying to walk a fine line between risk and reward. I've been operating with a single plan for several rounds, and the fall of CF threw that whole thing into disarray.

I think you all misunderstand.
I mean if there is absolutely no - and I mean zero - chance of me winning, then why shouldn't I endeavour to engineer a win for someone/s I'd prefer to win the game, if I can't, whether allied or not? Why would that not be part of the game? It's not like I'd be sabotaging myself while in with a shot at winning, or destroying myself utterly - I'd just be taking a small VP hit.
In addition, if it looks like D'rek - in this hypothetical situation - can win even if she takes the betrayer card, then that would be what would happen, rather than someone else taking the card in order to fashion that victory.

One is giving up, the other is being betrayed. The distinction is rather obvious I'd have thought.

Gnaw can you really afford to be giving up Procyon, trapping all your ships as even passing through territory with morgoth ships in will give you the traitor card if you have dip relations, and give up a VP from your 2vp token? You are already anchoring the bottom with points.
Regarding your cruiser, I'm willing to build some ships to free it up for more offensive duties, just say the word.
Re betraying alliance its actually a 5-9 point VP hit, depending on if you take the traitor card and how many diplomatic relations you break. Hardly a minor VP loss. I perfectly understand the if someone nearly wiped me out I'm going to try and stop them winning mentality without regards to my own score, but the I'm part of an alliance but not doing well, I'll leave and try and help the alliance win that way is fundamentally different.

The distinction between giving up and being betrayed is rather obvious. However, one can't give up if one has nothing to play for. You're only giving up if there's still a chance to win, however minor, but you don't go for it. I'm talking about a situation in which there is literally no hope.

5-9 hit, 10-20 hit, 1-3 hit, what is the difference when the result is the same with or without the hit? Second is still first loser I wouldn't particularly care if I finished second or sixth, I care about that first position.
But please, everyone do carry on, I am quite enjoying this baiting
