I guess you could argue that the techs figure into the cost of all of them, really, since you're sure as hell not going to hold onto your monoliths without spending money on defenses and tech!

It also depends on what your production is too. +5 materials from artifact key is a much bigger deal for me than it might be for a player that has 10+ production.

But strictly speaking, the "average" battle VP is probably expensive, considering lost ships, the very real possibility of getting only 1 or 2 VPs for your trouble, and on average 2VP for the hex.

It speaks to the game's balance though. A turtling player with strong position and relatively few hexes can amass VPs nearly as easily as an economic juggernaught that's fighting everyone on the board!

Yeah, I reckon I'll keep the orbital. I can't settle another planet now though, sadly. Shame it doesn't receive a cube automatically.

I have to say IH getting Missiles as a discovery blows big chunks. My biggest worry was him grabbing the plasma cannons but with missiles that opens up a huge can of this blows so bad I can't even describe it beyond this blows big chuncks. And the fact he didn't put it on any blueprint makes the chuncks extra chunky with foam thrown in. And with Jump Drive I can't even hide behind a blown supernova.

I cry foul on the discovery draws (not really but you can't deny me my pity party)

I need to do some research before the beginning of this next round. I might not be joining in battle with the evil man-machines after all.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

@Khell and Tapper, are you guys okay with me not doing much this round? I can get a lot of resource tweaking and preparation done, but it will use up most of my actions. I'll be able to do a few reactionary measures, like building 3 starbases in Rigel, but not a ton of guerilla maneuvering as before. I think with Tapper grabbing the GC and Khell make his big maneuver last round we mostly want to sit tight on our borders this round anyways. If you guys think you can handle the borders this round I promise I'll have lots to give next round!

I am okay with that, although I do wonder how much time we are allowed.

That is true. We'll see, I guess.

And I guess with 3 advancd economies coming out of the bag, we won't be able to keep Tatts from getting it, so he'll be able to do quite a few actions.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Damn. I semi-expected to see turn 1 waiting on me. *shrug*

CF, I have a fairly strong argument why it's in your team's interest to keep rotation clockwise. Care to hear it?

- RE replacement for IH -

It's probably not a good idea to just deliberately bankrupt out of the game just to take IH's spot Gnaw. I agree with others - first try to find a replacement player and if that fails then just have consensus control between you and Tatts.

Just bankrupting the draco out of the game for the sake of switching is a little weird because it's too easy of an out for an underperforming faction - I feel like your desire to remain in the game as draco is much stronger if you don't have the option of just shapeshifting into a mechanema.

I agree. I just threw that out as an option. I'm still hoping messremb can take over.

However, and this just occured to me, what about a newbie coming in (assuming one wants to). Instead of taking over for IH, that person takes over for Twelve, Khell, or myself. Assuming that would be agreeable, we could get fresh blood into the game to learn the rules but with minimum disruption.

Just a thought

I influence the hexes I'm in with discoveries. Colonise the grey planet by the GC and two advanced material planets. Bankrupt Vega. I think that balances.

not on my map. you're still 2 money short.

colonise the grey planet by the GC with money is what that should say, and then it balances.

NVM. you're right. forgot you had money in the bank.

Keep the science, please.

My setting for the round is then

0 money (10 income)
11 science (4 income)
8 materials (4 income)

I have you at 5 + 4 = 9 science and 0 + 4 = 4 mats.

Turn 1
Tapper Research Antimatter Cannons. Flip as many colony ships (1 or 2) as required to pay for it. -9 == 0 no ships used
Turn 5
Tapper - provisionally build 2 more fighters, flipping a colony ship for mats -5 mats == 0 left

    • Colonize mats planet and money on orbital.
    • Flip ships back up.
  • 0 upkeep. 0, 5, 4.

It might be that I am wrong in my assumption that during payment, you get the income from cubes before I discard discs to pay the upkeep gap.
So from that perspective, I'd get 10 + 6 + 8 and income for round 6 falls to a predictive 10/4/4 if I am not mistaken?
