I am currently reading the Blood Mirror and I'm around 200 pages in and I just had to rant a little about some things that irritate me

Spoiler

Overall I really am enjoying the series and the gripes I had were minor I just wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way or if I'm just being a picky ass.

Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

On that makes a lot more sense. It seemed so strange but your explanation cleared it up for me.

From what I understand, Blackguards rules for the women include that you can swap duties with someone else if you happen to be having cramps particularly badly some day. But you will end up looked down
on by the others if they think you're doing it to wriggle out of duties, so it's not something to use unless you are really in serious pain.

Mr Priest guy is overstepping his place by commenting, it's not his job to choose her clothes. Commenting on your friends clothes is different than commenting on your spiritual leader's.

This is true, but I'm not sure they needed to devote quite so much page time to it.

I also haven't read Blood Mirror. The series is kind of basic, but fun up to where I reached.

I'm still annoyed by the story being hijacked by prophecies and angels and demons in late book 3 but I enjoy the series and the magic system and look forward to finishing it!

Huh, I actually really like prophecies and angels and demons in my fantasy.

I gave up on the first book because of the fat kid who was going to be the next prism guy. The kid sections were painfully stupid.

Posts remind me this entire series has been languishing in the eTR/LP for too long.

May finally get on with it... i did enjoy NIGHT ANGEL, there's no reason i wouldn't like this.

The kid. The kid protagonist is the reason why you wouldn't like it.

I think series, more than any I've ever read, has seen me change direction on a character so much. I too hated Kip in book 1 he was so annoying, fat and whiny (heck if I want that I'll just look in the mirror...) But by book 3 I really loved him. It's definitely worth sticking through if you don't like him at first.

I do to, when the story is about angels, demons and prophecies. This book has nearly every charcter who is high up in the religion espousing something along the lines of either outright rejection of god exists but the religion is still good (The prism aka the pope of the world) or that god exists but he wont take a direct role (The White aka the worlds other pope), its up to the church to make paradise on earth. It was a story of mortal characters.

Then the worlds equivalent of satan rocks up after your 50% of the way through book 3 and says hi to the main character.

Its not like I threw the book in the trash but I think book 3 is a bit late in the game to change the path of the story.

Yeah I definitely think the mythology is the best part about books 3 and 4. Some of it did seem to come out of nowhere, but I was intrigued.

Yeah - I keep trying to convince my friend to keep at it. Kip is fucking horrible in the first couple of books, but he gets better, and the story itself is just getting super interesting (though I worry now that Brent Weeks has maybe made his world a bit TOO big).

I'm really digging the whole Gavin/Dazen thing, I really like the Teia storyline. I vascillate between outright anger/disgust and appreciation when it comes to Kip's storyline, I liked Karris' storyline much better before she became the White, and I am still very interested in Liv's storyline.

Andross Guile is easily the best villain in any book ever. Tywin Lannister eat your heart out!
