Spoiler
In book three there was a part where Karris thinks to herself that Marrisia could not possibly have had feelings for Gavin because she was a slave which seemed like a pretty silly thing for her to think. I may be confusing them but I am pretty sure there was also a part where Teia also thought that slaves could not have feelings for there "betters" and I thought what the fuck? It seemed incredibly stupid for a former slave to be that ignorant of the thoughts and feelings of slaves.
In Blood Mirror Teia gets her period and thinks how she knows better than to try to get out of her duties by using the cramps excuse. Really? You get beat up in training and practice how to fight through pain but some cramps have you needing a break? She then hands her soiled clothes to one of the guards just to be gross because he is showing some interest in her. It just felt like Weeks was putting it in to say "see everyone, periods are natural and even kick ass blackguards get them so don't be ashamed". It just felt like he added it as part of an agenda.
In Blood Mirror Karris is now the White and at one point Teia goes to see her in her room as she is preparing for the big holy day of Sun Day. It says Karris' voice towers over the crowd of people but due to her small stature she did not. We fucking get it already, Karris is short and little why does it have to be pointed out every time we see her. Then as Teia gets closer she sees a man in the crowd blanch and ask Karris "are you really going dressed in that?". Karris is dressed in a skintight shirt and pants outfit which is the same as the clothing the black guards wear except Karris' are white. Karris then scolds him for being a pervert with the audacity to question her clothing choice and ogle her body and tells him to leave and not return while Teia thinks about how Karris' outfit shows power and the fact that they are at war and is not meant to display her body and be looked at sexually. Karris then starts to read over her speech while nodding at a slave to turn her page for her each time she is finished. After this she turns to go and a black guard man asks if she really is wearing that outfit and she laughs and says no and has her slaves bring her a dress which she had specially made that can be put on over her white outfit but can be torn off quickly if she needs to fight. For some reason this whole part irritated me and for some reason took me out of the story. Karris is preparing to speak at a huge holy day celebration and is wearing something that would seem inappropriate and when a man asks her if she really means to wear it he gets denounced for sexualizing her but the next guy asks and gets a laugh and Karris basically says that she knew her outfit was inappropriate so she had a special dress made. What the fuck? There was no indication that the first guy was staring or being inappropriate or drooling or anything that warranted the response he got besides the fact that Karris said he was being an ass somehow and yet she laughed off the next guy who says it. It seems strange that she would be wearing an outfit that she not only knows is inappropriate for the event, but also that she knows she has no intention of wearing but decides to call out the first guy who questions her as a pervert who only sees her body. It also seemed strange that such a capable women would have the thought process to call out a man for sexualizing her body but then seconds later would sit down to read and have a slave turn the fucking pages for her instead of doing it herself. It just seemed like Weeks wanted to put a part in his book to explain that women's bodies should not be sexualized but it was so awkwardly done it was like stopping a movie for a public service announcement.

Overall I really am enjoying the series and the gripes I had were minor I just wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way or if I'm just being a picky ass.
