When you put it like that, yeah. But for most the VC is to eliminate the Vord Queen and fuck (not literally) the rest of the Vord. One individual between twenty-something players might take a while to track down. I'm certainly not expecting the factions to remain the bestest of friends if it does end up a long chase.
It might be tough to not have this game go the way such books always go (and I bet in the Alera series too). Loads of squabbling and fighting between various armies/petty nations etc, whilst a bigger threat grows ever stronger in the background.

I've got a question. Do the Vord take over people in the book, and if so do they retain the knowledge and abilities of the people they've taken over?

In the books:

1 - there are "slave collars" that are literal collars which can be put on someone and bind them to another person's will, basically by torturing you when you disobey. Kalare and his ilk are big fans of these - they use them on some hostages they take, and Kalare uses them on his own servants to ensure their loyalty. He has a special group of private assassins called the Immortals who have been raised since they were kids with slave collars and are insane + insanely loyal to him - like if he tells them to kill you they will keep crawling towards you with a knife after you put a dozen arrows in them.

2 - The Vord have "Takers" which are parasitic worms that can crawl through your orifices (or battle wounds) into you, get into your brain and turn you into zombies working for the Vord. Taken people are not very smart - I don't think they ever learn to talk in the series, and they aren't very creative. But, they are controlled by the queen(s) and like the Immortals therefore have no fear or hesitation. The zombies are also a bit super-strong. The biggest factor of all, is that the queen(s) can learn things, including learning how to have their zombies use furycrafting if someone uses it on the zombies first.


3 - The "Prime Queen" creates a spider-parasite that keeps Invidia Aquitaine alive after she was almost-killed. It doesn't subvert Invidia's will, but Invidia willingly works for the Vord once she has the spider-parasite keeping her alive (because otherwise she'd die). Since she's not zombified, Invidia can still use all the furies and powers of a High Lady.


4 - The Vord ALSO coerce Kalarus Brencis Minoris to work for them, and they have him enslave captured Alerans with slave collars, giving the Vord more humans soldiers that aren't zombies so they can use all their crafting abilities, as well.
