I have to somewhat agree with Abyss, somewhat. Firefly was good, but it wasn't really that good. I've long been convinced that one of the reason people keep saying "OHMAGERD BEST SHOEW EVAR!!2!" is due to the fact it got cancelled.
Dollhouse was better simply because it was totally fucked up.

It is indeed taking place after the Avengers movie. Coulson being alive, well, Nick Fury is a spy, and spies lie...
Oh right, and yeah, I'm rather psyched for this aswell.

I only recently got around to watching The Avengers. But I did a re-watch knowing that Coulson was going to be in a series. I think they had his survival planned from the beginning. It really does sound to me as if Iron Man uses the present tense when he is talking to Loki about the people he's managed to piss off. "His name is Phil." But I was watching the BluRay version so it's entirely possible they overdubbed it.

Even if they planned for Coulsen's return when they killed him (which is likely), there'd be no reason for this to happen - Tony's not supposed to know that he's still alive, after all.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I'm pretty sure the vintage Captain America Trading Cards that Coulson keeps are the key that Whedon left laying about as a hint to Coulson surviving.
1. We don't see Coulson die, we merely see the medics show up.
2. Fury is the one who tells the others that Coulson is down, and uses the blood stained cards as proof.
3. Maria Hill points out that the cards were not in Coulson's jacket during the fight, but rather safely in his locker.
Easy peasy.
Now, as to whether or not Tony knows...I'm with PG that he doesn't...as he still thinks he's dead in IM3.

I enjoyed it.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I couldn't pay full attention, what with my wife yammering in one ear and my kid singing at operatic volumes while beating on a plastic chair in the other, but it didn't seem too bad.
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

I thought it was decent. Not 100% sold on the team, but I'm in for the season.
Good to see Ron Glass in the pilot - hope he's a recurring character.
And yeah, will be interesting to see what the "he never needs to know" reveal is gonna be.

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I've been pretty superheroed out since about the second X-men movie, so a really long time. But I like Joss Whedon. Ever since he did The Avengers and showed me that I could actually enjoy a superhero movie again, I've been sold. Anything he's writing, I'll give it a try.
I only managed to catch the second half of the SHIELD pilot, but I thought it was fun. I'll probably follow this show.

I'd like to point out that the dialogue gave me Buffy-style vibes.
And that's a great thing.
I love Joss.
