No, not calling the bluff now Gnaw. I was all pessimistic and down at the start of last round cause Twelve is so immovable, but knowing now that even my small movement of an interceptor can disrupt his plans, makes it worthwhile seeing things through until the end.

That said, I'm still fine with the next game starting early, I just don't want to totally lose momentum here in the last round. Just when things are getting proper exciting!

I think the most interesting thing about this game is the fact that we all are trying to be in alliances without the ability to officially be in a game-sanctioned alliance.

"erm, Khell, would you like me to move my ships ever so politely out of they way so you can pass through and destroy the common enemy?"

"erm D'rek, how shall my deadly orange dreads position themselves so as to keep Morgoth off your back and ensure you have a shot at Twelve next round"

I can see why alliances are almost required in a large game. The main travel routes get so crowded, it adds a lot of unnecessary huffing and puffing and unnecessary move-actions to the sequence.

Still fun.

Ouch. That's gonna leave a mark.

    I won't start it early.
    • I'm busy with this one now.
    • 3 other people said I shouldn't.
    • still haven't come to a consensus on # of players.

I think the most interesting thing about this game is the fact that we all are trying to be in alliances without the ability to officially be in a game-sanctioned alliance.

"erm, Khell, would you like me to move my ships ever so politely out of they way so you can pass through and destroy the common enemy?"

Yeah, alliances are definitely needed. I still have concern about the rule stating you have to have diplomatic relations with one of the other players to join their alliance. That guarantees that you can't be in an alliance with somebody across the board. Which means that alliances have an impact on the game from the moment that player order is set.

    Still fun.

Quite so. Even from the god view.

You can be allies with someone across the board with warp portals. Or you could be allies with someone who goes to the middle and brings in a 3rd members who is across the board from you.

I think the reason we felt alliances might not be needed after last game is that it was only 7 players and we jumped into alliances early, but having 9 players in a game is a much squishier game so it really shows the difference.

Don't get me wrong I still feel very confident that I will win. It just that things would have been marginally easier if you had left that interceptor in Capella. I have to admit I completely forgot that you had the cloaking tech and it didn't even dawn on my that you were planning on moving through my territory instead of trying to relieve me of one. It's a good thing I didn't build a cruiser in Capella and zeta Herculi as I had initially planned. That would probably have messed us both up a little bit.

And I think we are all in aggreement that alliances are a must in the larger games and probably isn't too bad an idea in smaller games either as they are limited to 2 players in a 6 person game. It definiately gives players that previously had no hope of winning a chance to work with someone else to tag team someone bigger and stronger than them.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

To hell with bigger and stronger. I want "smarter and slimier" in my partners. :)

You better build. You are going to need the actions next round to move everything you built.

Well that means I can converse with my good friend Sam Adams tonight without worrying about resolving combats during the conversation.

But two of your starbases passed out. So his cruiser wins that hex.

I seem to recall Tatts saying something about a party this weekend. So we could be waiting a good while on him. *shrug*

Yeah. My passive playstyle with a race suited for combat is solely because I am squeezed in between two threats, one of whom had, for 7 rounds, no access to the outer world except through my systems and the other being the game leader. I could have started a largely suicidal war with either but it would just have meant early elimination. Overall, this game has not been very enjoyable for me and I firmly believe that the alliance system would have allowed me to be way more proactive and perhaps have given me a shot at victory.
