Well I'm going to go ahead and put in a provisional. As long as Tapper doens't do anything threatening to me I'm going to

Influence
- Remove the influence disk from the Galactic Center
- Return all three population cubes displaced to science
- Replace the influence disk to the Galactic Center
- Populate one Grey slot with a Money cube, and the science slot with science
- Reset two colony ships
- Populate advanced science slot and material slot
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

How would I get that point defense?
By defeating ancients?

It's a rare tech. First it needs to be drawn during one of the tech draws and then you have to be lucky enough to have is still on the board when it's your turn to research it as there is only one. It is excellent defense against missles. It single handedly kept IH in the game last game.

In a lot of cases I think distortion shield is actually better. Point defense is good when you're fighting several types of enemy ships with missiles or if you have a lot of individual cannons. It was so amazing for IH last game because he also had antimattercannons and antimatter splutter, letting him kill 4 missiles per good dice roll. Without the splutter, though, each of his antimatter cannons would only have killed one missile.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Distortion shield tech can be counterd with 2 gluon computers. Though only Dreads and cruisers can field two of those computers. It will in almost all cases without Gluon computers completely negate interceptors with missles though. And a popular technique is to field two positron computers so you would still be vunerable to players with these type of upgrades. Though your odds of getting hit moves from 83% to 50% so that is nothing to scoff at.

As for Point Defense I agree that with IH getting the antimatter splitter along with the point defense made it much stronger than it would have been otherwise. Getting attacked with twelve missles isn't unheard of but it's unlikely someone has 12 cannons available to shoot the missles down that is defending. Your best bet would be to have 2 dreads with 4 Ion cannons and a couple of starbases with at least two as well to match the incoming missiles. Not impossible but not very likely as your ships would be vunerable to any other type of attack.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Interesting conversation. I think it summarizes to, "I ain't scared of them missiles!“ and "Well you should be!“

You always have the option of leaving my starting system.

I was planing to buy the warp portal, which alas you ruined entirely.

Action 2: Move the cruiser in 281 through the wormhole to hex 308 (uninfluenced, ancient cruiser occupied hex).

scratch that, actually. I'll go with the prov below.

Can you do that? I don't know if you can. From what I can see, CF has an orbital in 381 which would pin your ship. Or am I seeing it wrong? You'd have to attack hex 381 would you not? Or move a ship into that hex and then another to by pass that hex into the ancient hex.

Well, the rules say you can move through wormholes as through any other territory. Only ships (and star bases count as ships, which means only Morghy's orbitals do, too) pin, iirc. So that would make it legal. If it is illegal, then I won't actually be doing this, but submit

build orbital in 320, populate with money. by using 4 mats
build orbital in 230, populate with science by using 2 mats, 3 science and 3 money traded.

I don't think there is a limit on the amount of orbitals per system, is there?

If you win the hex you'd have an orbital and a science planet so you could put money on the orbital and science on the planet and be in a good position to take the ancient next round.

The wormhole hex is within travel distance from the current location of CFs fleet. He's picking a fight with Khell that may or may not take him further away from the wormhole. If he stays, Khell may attack him or pin him. If I moved now, Gnaw could build and attack me. SS would face fewer units if I moved through now.
Orbitals built this round and next will yield sufficient resources to pay back the investment, building them later doesn't. Twelve seems to be in a reorganisation/consolidation round (I expect him to plop down 4 starbases on the centre, that helps, too.
I can still move through with a reaction later, anyway.

You can only build one orbital pr system as far as I'm aware.

I don't know if your first move is illegal or not yet, maybe it could go through.

I know, I want war eventually but I need better materials to go ahead with it anytime soon. Your materials are great and your ship quantity is also great and so is your tech.

What Morgoth says. You may not be ready for it now, but if you face D'rek when she has twice the materials you have, you can win every battle but she'll outbuild you to begin with. Right now you may not be strong enough, but she faces you AND Morgoth. Together, you're a pain in the ass.

Morghy's correct about the orbitals being limited to one a system :)

I don't get what you are saying about the orbitals, you can build one in one hex and one in another. When you say a system what are you meaning, a hex? So is he saying you can only build one a turn? I think you have one build in 230 and one in 320 they are different hexes. So I am confused if what you are saying is that your second move is illegal.

I may build a dread in PSi Capricornii in two goes time. Next go will be too upgrade dread with plasma cannons over ion cannons. Does this please you Morgoth?

I had changed the order initially to say 2x orbital in 320, since that's completely walled off from anyone. I also guess it would make orbitals a bit better, but it might be abusive, too.

:) Why would he? It is more of a threat to him than anything else, really. If you want to build a threat/ deterrent to D'rek, you put it in 107. There, it threatens the rich planets 212, 205 and 232 (her home planet), each with 3 cubes placement.
If you want to build a system destroyer that will either be able to conquer unopposed or force her into building a defense (to give Morghy a chance without meddling yourself), you may want to add an extra ion cannon on a hull instead of going to plasma's: killing cubes is then more important than doing big damage.
If you want to engage in ship battles, the plasma's are better.
