Yeah played as the eridani, the quantum grid, double dread opening is super strong.

Mechanema grabbed the early lead despite the strong eridani opening and grabbed the GC. They were the powerplayer for most of the game (they built ALL their ships, which I have never seen before), but foolishly spread themselves to thin by attacking exiles... whereupon the hydrans and I piled in on them taking most of their hexes. The hydrans missile fleet eliminated most of their ships in an epic last turn battle. Hydrans grabbed the shellworld from the mechanema for a very strong finish, but I grabbed the GC, artifact link and the ancient monument via judicious use of the artifact key. Came home with 63 points, hydrans had 50 odd, exiles and mechanema limped home with 30 odd.

We played a slight variant in a 10 turn game, as we left in all the explores. I wouldn't recommend it, two players ended up filling all the technology tracks and led to boring early game.

Also the combat simulator has been updated... and it is even better:

Congrats on your victory. I'm also liking some of the things that you are saying about the Eridani because building two dreads is exactly what I have in mind for this round unless you meant that you grabbed both the quantum grid and double dreads all in round one. As for building all of my ships I was playing around with doing just that last game but opted to, you know, play to win. Worked out pretty well if I remember correctly.

So are you regretting not jumping in this game yet or are you able to actually get some work on that thesis of yours?
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

There must be some security settings on my work computer that aren't allowing me to see this properly. Either that or I'm an idiot and can't figure out how to use it. Good thing I'm at least halfway decent at figuring out probabilities on my own else I would be royally screwed entering combat.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

80 pages or so of thesis done, so in good shape. Checking into the chat on this thread is a lot less timeconsuming than planning and keeping track of what people are doing, so no pretty glad I didn't join.

Re simulator, try running it in chrome

I'm guessing he'd have spent less time monitoring the game had he played. :(
@ IH. Please feel free to shoot me pointers, criticisms, random thoughts, etc. Kibitzing from the peanut gallery is always appreciated.

A thought IH: can admins easily move individual posts within a thread? I would find it a bit easier to look at the page one updates if they were in order of the players starting positions. As always, mileage may vary.

Action 1, Round 2 Provisional:

build 3x Interceptor in sector 281 (ring 2, next to ancient-occupied sector 105)

Looks like Zeta Hurculis is going to get very crowded this round. As this is a provisional you might want to seriously reconsider changing your action Tapper. No sense losing all those pretty new ships of yours so early in the game.

That sounds like a threat.
Are you scared Tapper?

Not a threat. Just a statement of fact. If he wants to throw away his tin cans he is more than welcome to it. Actually I encourage it! A bloodied nosed man machine gives me a few rounds reprieve before he can recover would be fine by me. Or better yet I'd swoop in and take his homeworld if he gives me grief in taking that hex. I'd totally let D'rek take down the GC to put the computer people in their place.

MWAHA (cough, cough, wheeze, wheeze)

EDIT: I looked at SS's discs.
I assume you'll trade in money and science for +12 mats, then build 2 dreads, upgrade to plasma cannon and perhaps a +1 computer.
Y'see, the problem I have here is this: what's your guarantee you won't swoop for my systems, anyway, once you have Zeta Herculi?

And as an aside, there's the chance that my fighters will be able to take out a dread, which would suck a bit for you, even if you take the system after that (there's a 40% chance according to my simulations (with an upgraded fighter) that such a thing would happen).

Meh, being on your toes is overrated, unless you are a ballerina mid-spin.
I spent quite some time looking for Twelve's upkeep, couldn't find it in his post (even though it is there, low end of the spoilers), then confused his with SS's due to the red type he uses while having pink units on the map and almost took the wrong conclusion which would have meant me waving the game goodbye somewhere after Round 3.

Ah, that's classic Blind Eclipse for you!

You should do what I do, and pretend there's no one else playing this game, so that I don't need to worry about actually paying attention to what other people are doing.

Hi guys,

end of the canoe trip took longer than expected. I'm back at the computer today and after I catch up on work missed Friday (took the day off), I'll update the board and have a look at the conversation here.

Sorry folks but, I'm unable to play this week by the looks of things.
I'm on a Forest retreat till Friday and I ain't got no signal.

Any news on my last turn? Wether or not the gods were conspiring against me?
