What's that converted to USD? My mortgage with taxes and insurance included comes to about $1300/month. I like living rural. I'm 2 hours south of Portland Oregon the closest thing to a big city in the whole state and I'm just outside of Eugene and I think that is too big sometimes.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

I am very jealous, twelve. That's amazing. I hope the grass does indeed itch like Tatts says :p

But...what do you do with it all?!

My in-laws currently purchased a pool and promptly left so I have install it myself but for the most part the yard is dotted with fruit trees. We have some 10 apple trees, 3 cherry, 4 plum, 4 pear, 2 filbert, 1 walnut with a few cedar a douglas fir and pine thrown in for good measure. Oh there is a dogwood and birch in my in-laws front yard too. A few lilachs, a rose garden, honeysuckle, jasmine, wisteria(sp?). Oh the grapes, How could I forget about the 5 rows of grapes. My father in law experiments with home wine making. And experimenting is the appropriate term. His best is barely drinkable so far. Oh and my rasberry and blueberry row. It's almost July so those are just about ready to eat. Yummy!!!!

Now you are just rubbing it in :p

It's about $1500/month. The upside is that I would live in the middle of a large cosmopolitan city, which I do love. But even so, house/apartment renters and buyers are currently being shafted in London, and that's not going to stop any time soon.

What do they usually farm outside your yard? You also have a whole lot fewer obsticles to dodge than I do.

Those are some awesome living places. Though I don't know how on earth you guys manage to maintain it. I just have a little apartment and can never seem to have the time to properly clean/fix all the things that need cleaning/fixing. If I had a whole house, let alone acres of land, I don't think I would have time for eclipse!

The zero turn (Bad Boy brand. Really that's their name.) almost makes mowing not a pita. 10 mph doesn't sound fast, but on the longer stretches it's nice.
EditYou're right about the cost. Besides the time and fuel savings, it also is going to outlast a riding mower. This thing is built with 1/4" steel. Half inch tubing on the frame. There's no doubt it'll last a very long time.

That sounds really nice. But I have decided that the next time I have multiple acres to mow I will be looking at getting this bad boy.

Real Mans Lawn Mower

After doing 2 acres with a crappy push for 7 years when I was a kid I think that being able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds would drastically cut down the time that it took.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Reminds me of the time I visited San Fransico about 10 years back. We were looking to buy about then so were curious as to home costs in the bay area. A studio apartment probably no more than 250 square feet was going for close to what my mortage cost me now. I can't imagine what it would cost now. Frickin ridiculous.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

It's nice. But there are trade offs. I'd like to live in a college town near 40-50 miles from a Portland sized city. The college town being the draw for me. Audit the occasional class for student ID. Concerts, plays, guest speakers.
The rattlesnake hunt at the rod and gun club isn't cutting for me.

Hence why I don't play once I get home. I spent all evening yesterday replacing the hose on the kitchen sink. Weekends are devoted to the serious yard maintenacne. I have a ton of pruning that needs to be done some mowing to do but it's been raining the last couple of days. And the garden.... poor poor garden. It's mostly weeds now as I haven't had a chance to touch it in over a week.
