The remaining crew is able to reach escape pods and safely eject from the foundering wreckage of the dreadnought. They will live to fight another day. Their captain and their ship unfortunately will not.

Commodore Gfklpq returns to Mu Herculis for his new command, leaving Sub-Commander Mrglt in command of the 1st Cruiser Fleet. All Ancient outposts and mining operations are rooted out, bringing the sector under Orion control (I place an influence disc). Regal Ambassador Wbrbwp departs from Gfklpq's flagship via shuttle, heading to Eta Geminorum where he will establish an embassy in the Exiles capital.

It is not yet certain what the primary benefits of this partnership will be - Wbrbwp awaits word of what treasures will be discovered in the Ancient ruins in Lambda Fornacis before finalizing the mercantile contracts with the Exiles. (I'll wait to see the discovery tile before deciding what cube to put on the ambassador tile).

Messengers also set out to Aldebaran, to discuss whether terms of peace are possible with the Sentinels of Magellan or not.

Just realized all through that I put "HITS" instead of "DAMAGE" Not that it really mattered for simple ancient combat with ion cannons (mostly); I was tallying damage, which is the important thing in this case. In the future I'll distinguish between hits and damage, since players might want to split hits between enemy ships.

Since we're waiting on word from Morgoth on what to do with his dread, maybe you can answer me this riddle:

Who gets first dibs on the discovery draws? Do we go in turn order from last round? GP, Morgoth, D'rek, Tapper, Me? That's assuming those players influence their hard-won tiles (I plan to).

It's not really much of a riddle and the answer is probably in the rules but I'll be darned if I can find it.

The technical rule is:

You resolve all battles in descending order of hex number

then

Players can influence empty hexes where they have ships, in descending order of hex number. Discovery tiles would be resolved as you put the discs down.

Ah, I see that now in an obscure reference on the very last page of the core rules.

So combat hexes this round were:
  • 320 Nu Ophiuchi - Mechanema vs. Ancients
  • 305 Lambda Serpentis - Exiles vs. Ancients
  • 301 Zeta Draconis - Rho Indi vs. Ancients
  • 212 Lambda Fornacis - Orion vs. Ancients
  • 204 Vega - Magellan vs. Ancients
  • 105 Zeta Herculis - Eridani vs. Ancients

So I will await orders from you all. Please update on page 1. We also need word from Morgoth before I process any post-combat instructions.

Rho indi => influences zeta draconis, awaits result of disco tile draw.

Question on retreats. Doesn't it take a full round of combat to officially retreat? Ie round two you order the retreat. round three you actually retreat and can still be destroyed by enemy ships that shoot before you that next round?

I'm asking because if that is the case then wouldn't the ancients have taken out d'rek's dread even though it was retreating? Or do the ancients only target ships that are actively engaged in combat? I don't have access to the rules on my phone else I would look it up.

As for my hex influence and colonize the money and science slots and populate the diplomacy tile with money if tapper still desires to exchange ambassadors.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Damn CF you rolling loaded dice. there's what? five double sixes rolled during all rounds of combat. Poor D'rek was on the wrong end of most of them.
