Ok, resolving combat.
Since this is my first combat resolution as mod, I'm going to make a rule right now.
If the results final results of combat are subject to a major screw up by me (e.g. miscalculation, incorrect addition, incorrect application of ancient priority etc...) and it is pointed out to me, I will resurrect all ships involved re-resolve combat correctly, using all new rolls.
Unless directed otherwise, I will resolve combat giving best advantage to players. If it's one of those iffy combat situations and instructions from players are insufficient beforehand, I will pause the combat and await instruction from players (e.g. player has a freak loss of a powerful ship right off the bat and might want to consider retreat).
I think that's the only fair way to do it. It doesn't give anybody extra chances, and it doesn't put me on the spot giving unfair advantage to anyone, including myself.
