I'm giving this one a pass.

There is a very good reason that Patience is a Virtue. It's so damn hard.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

We should ask RLY, too, I think he might've been interested.

When will this game be starting? It's got me curious, I like the idea of it, but never played table top RPG before, let alone via the medium of cyber-posts! However, to get the feel for it, I might watch this one out. How long will the game last? Is it still 9 rounds like the core rules says?

It depends on how long we can drag out the wait before twelve has an aneurism.

Should I decide to play, what would I need then?
Other than my copy of 'the art of war' and all my geek reserves of course.

Join us, it'll be fun! We had several people in the last game who had never played before, and they seemed to do just fine.
Question/conundrum - the rule book says that Planta and Draco should not be allowed in games of 7 or more players. I'm not really sure why, whether it's too advantageous or too disadvantageous for them... I'm sure it's to do with their better exploration abilities. I guess since they can explore better they could get to Tier I faster and block people out? Or maybe because there aren't as many total hexes per person they have a disadvantage? I'm not really sure, but are we banning them from being picked? I'd be okay with allowing it and seeing how it goes. Worst comes to worst, we'll all know to gang up on whoever picks Planta

The descendants and planta are definitely a little overpowered in the 7-9 player game (we tried it once and both zoomed to strong early leads), the race to the centre and claiming hexes in the centre is much more important. More ancients boosts the draco significantly, and two explores for the planta early on is much more significant.
The planta are slightly balanced by the fact that their combat ability is quite poor, and with new techs and many fronts it is harder for them to block themselves in, the draco were majorly boosted however. In the game we played with them in they managed to grab three early hexes in tier 1 and block the centre whilst everyone else was still struggling with ancients in tier 2. Two alliances among the other races eventually cut down the planta, but couldn't handle the descendants. I'd go with the play testers on this, terrans are a pretty good race regardless.

Okay well this should be a very good game. I played the last game all by myself without allies. So you could say I am at an advantage ha ha ha, that should make up for my lack of brain skills.

I thought your chiselled granite features were supposed to make up for your lack of brain skills?

Rad!
9 Players!
I got some time to frig with stuff over the weekend and have mostly sorted out the hexes that D'rek sent me. The expansion hexes didn't scan perfectly and have a few edges cut off here and there but seem to be perfectly usable. We can work on better resolution scans another time.
For Solid and Gnaw, rules are linked in the first post of the Eclipse 2 thread. I have a copy of the expansion ruleset but I don't think we've decided if we're going to play that yet.
Regardless, give the core game rules a good read. Turns and such work differently from other strategy games and it takes a bit of getting used to. It's a much more "simultaneous" thing than, say, axis and Allies where each player begins and completely finishes his turn before passing to the next player. Eclipse is more about many quick no-upkeep actions by each player in multiple turns around the board before an actual "round" is wrapped up and all players do upkeep together.
So I guess we just have to decide on which expansions we do/don't want to play with and which, if any, house rules will be in effect. From last game, we played with victory point tiles face up (so as not to give the mod an advantage) and allowed off-board discussion via PM.
We have also had proposed no alliances this game (which I'm happy with) and I think it's probably best to go with the rule recommendation RE descendants and Planta. We all put so much time into these games that it would suck to have the outcome a foregone conclusion by the middle of the game.
